Rock Island, IL – St. Joseph the Worker House Association wishes to announce it has received a $1,000 grant from the Rock Island Rotary to help with the organization’s Touching Families, Touching Lives program.

Rock Island, IL - The Amy Helpenstell Foundation has awarded a $15,000 grant to Christian Care to help support their domestic violence shelter in Rock Island.  This contribution will help Christian Care to permanently transform the lives of abused women with children through counseling and case management. Like Christian Care, the Amy Helpenstell Foundation has helped thousands within the Quad City community over the years, and their generosity is much appreciated.

The mission of Christian Care's domestic violence shelter is to empower abused women and children to desire and achieve a new and independent way of life while keeping them safe, warm, fed and clothed. By providing basic needs, professional counseling, holistic case management, advocacy, and access to community resources, Christian Care seeks to end the cycle of abuse and offers an opportunity for women to lead a successful new life.

Christian Care is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization operating two facilities?a domestic violence shelter for abused women and children and a rescue mission for homeless men. It serves homeless individuals, victims of domestic violence, veterans, men and women coming out of prison, and those with mental illness.

Christian Care's community meal site is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays Monday through Friday, and for breakfast and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Rock Island, IL - What was perceived as bad news has turned to good. Although the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation has suspended its annual $1 Million Giveaway to Fight Hunger campaign this year, a fundraiser that Christian Care counts on, a local anonymous donor has come forward to help replace that loss.

"One of our loyal donors has committed to match gifts up to $8,000 if received by May 31," said CEO Elaine M. Winter. "This means that your donation of $25, $50, or $100 will really be $50, $100, or $200. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to double our gifts so the needy in the Quad Cities may benefit throughout the year."

Monetary contributions can be mailed to Christian Care, PO Box 4176, Rock Island, IL 61204-4176.  In addition to financial gifts, Christian Care can always use paper products such as bath tissue and paper towels, gently used clothing, new underwear, and personal care items such as razors and toiletries.

Rock Island, IL - Christian Care has received a $500 grant from the Rock Island Community Foundation to help provide counseling for children who arrive at its domestic violence shelter with their mothers.

As victims or witnesses to domestic violence, these children are affected emotionally, socially, psychologically, physically, and behaviorally during their formative years, and their well-being and cognitive development ultimately impacts their adult functioning if left untreated. These children are three times more likely to grow up and repeat the patterns of domestic abuse, either by becoming a victim of an abusive relationship, or an abuser.

By intervening in the lives of the children, and providing legal advocacy if needed, Christian Care creates an opportunity to heal what would otherwise become long-term and perhaps even permanent emotional and mental scars resulting from the trauma of the children's exposure to domestic violence.

"This grant through the Quad City Parrot Head Club will allow Christian Care to continue to provide the services that help our children begin to heal and overcome the childhood scars that come with physical, emotional, and mental abuse, and help them feel safe and secure again. Our warmest thanks go out to all the golfers and volunteers who made this generous gift possible."

Rock Island, IL - Christian Care's Domestic Violence Shelter has received a $10,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation. "Christian Care is grateful to the Verizon Foundation for its support of our services for women who have been abused," said Grants and Funding Coordinator Ann Ring. "Our services not only address the immediate needs?safe shelter, food and clothing?of our clients and other community members, but also help them to heal from their trauma by processing the emotional, physical and economic effects of domestic violence. We would be unable to provide these life-altering services to those in need without the much-needed support of donors like the Verizon Foundation."

The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon, uses its technology, financial resources and partnerships to address critical social issues, with a focus on education and domestic violence prevention. In 2011, the foundation awarded more than $66 million to nonprofit agencies in the U.S. and abroad. For more information on the foundation, visit verizonfoundation.org.
