Grassley’s admission highlights need for confirmation hearings

DES MOINES, Iowa – Patty Judge, candidate for U.S. Senate, released the following statement in reaction to Chuck Grassley’s assertion that Donald Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court would be “a gamble.”

“After embracing Donald Trump, introducing him at a rally, and pledging to support him as the nominee, Chuck Grassley now admits that Trump’s pick for the next Supreme Court justice is ‘a gamble.’ While I agree it’s a gamble to let Donald Trump pick, it’s clear that we should have hearings and give fair consideration to President Obama’s nominee. Rather than gamble with an unknown, we should have hearings for the nominee at hand.” – Patty Judge.

Background:

Grassley on Trump nominee “I would have to admit it’s a gamble.” Speaking on an Iowa radio show, Grassley said “If Trump’s elected president, it probably is a little more unknown than if there’s a Cruz elected president.” Grassley added, “I would have to admit it’s a gamble.” [Huffington Post, 4/28/16]
