Play with the QCSO Professional Musicians in the Community Wide Side-by-Side Performance – April 10
Step right up! As they enter their second century, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra is making a creative effort to reach out and engage families and the community in the joys of music. On Saturday, April 9, 2016 the QCSO will hold its first Family Music Carnival. The event coincides with their new Family Concert: The Magical Music of Disney. QCSO Family Music Carnival is an event designed for the whole family featuring a “Palooza" performance stage sponsored by Northwest Bank. Musical and arts activities and games for families like Ballet Quad Cities’ Dance-Me-a-Story, a time capsule, musical chairs, a drum circle and opportunities to try and play different instruments in the musical instrument petting zoo and more will be featured! Bring your own small, personal item for our time capsule that we will seal to be opened in 5 years! The QCSO plans to engage children in the wonderful world of music while providing an affordable opportunity for quality family time. A variety of activities will be available for kids ages two and up. Entry into the Family Music Carnival is free. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Family Concert: The Magical Music of Disney to be presented
Also on Saturday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the Adler Theatre is the QCSO’s Family Concert: The Magical Music of Disney. It’s a carpet ride through the best-loved Disney movie scores of all time synchronized to animated images from popular films like Frozen, Tarzan, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Lion King and more. Kids will thrill to the appearance of a real, live princess. Miss Iowa Taylor Wiebers will make a special appearance to sing Let it Go from Frozen. Designed to be accessible to all audiences and priced to be affordable for families, tickets start at just $5 for children and $10 for adults. The Family Concert is supported by the John Deere and Hubbell-Waterman Foundations and Modern Woodmen.
An Attempt to Stage the Largest Quad Cities Orchestra Ever
And for even more fun, the QCSO is ambitiously planning to assemble the largest orchestra of community member musicians ever assembled in the Quad Cities! The QCSO is challenging and inviting musicians of any age and skill level that read music to bring their instrument to the RiverCenter on Sunday, April 10 at 6:00 p.m. to join the professional musicians of the QCSO in their first Community Wide Side-by-Side performance. The Community Wide Side-by-Side will perform Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture under the direction of QCSO Music Director and Conductor, Mark Russell Smith. Cost to play is $20 and registration is online at qcso.org. Register before March 20 to get a t-shirt!
The Family Music Carnival and Community Wide Side-by-Side will take place in the Mississippi River Hall at the RiverCenter in downtown Davenport. The Family Concert: The Magical Music of Disney will take place at the Adler Theatre.
