Davenport NAACP Branch #4019 announces its annual Freedom Fund Banquet fundraiser to promote civil rights initiatives and support scholarship programs in the Quad Cities.

The Freedom Fund Banquet will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Clarion Hotel, 5202 N. Brady, Davenport, Iowa. Evening attire is suggested. Tickets are $40 per person and includes a soul food dinner buffet and entertainment. Social hour begins at 6pm/Dinner at 7pm. The evening's entertainment will include performances by the Imani! Dancers, under the direction of Dorian Byrd, and Pastor Stanley Moore of Progressive Baptist Church, Davenport, Iowa.

The theme of this year's Freedom Fund Banquet is "We Shall Not Be Moved." Addressing the theme will be this year's guest speaker, Kameron Middlebrooks. Mr. Middlebrooks, at 24 years of age, is a dynamic young civil rights leader who currently holds the position of NAACP Region IV Director.

Kameron Middlebrooks joined the NAACP as a junior in high school in Des Moines, Iowa. After attending his first National Convention, he ran for and won a position on the National Board of Directors as Youth Representative of Region 4. Regarding his four years of service in that capacity, Mr. Middlebrooks says, "It was a great experience - being around civil rights icons of our time now. I learned so much.

Since June of 2012, Mr. Middlebrooks has served as Midwest Regional Director for the NAACP. As a Regional Director, he is determined to share the lessons he has learned with everyone he meets, but particularly with other young people. In addition to speaking at the Freedom Fund Banquet, Mr. Middlebrooks will preside over a free Youth Forum organized by the Davenport NAACP and St. Ambrose University on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the Rogalski Center on the campus of St. Ambrose University. All middle school, high school and college students are invited. Pizza and soft drinks will be served free of charge to all attendees.
