Rock Island, IL: Whatever your interest, the Rock Island Library is offering ways to learn more and beat cabin fever through a diverse selection of free programs for adults in February. Upcoming classes and lectures include:

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, Tuesday, Feb. 2, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street. A free "make and take" class on the art of aromatherapy. Learn more about essential oils, and how to blend them into a product to take home with you. Presented by Dr. Pam Taylor, ND. Registration for this class will be taken though Feb. 1, 2016. Sign up online or call 309-732-7341. For adults, ages 18 and up.

Introduction to Homebrewing, Thurs, Feb. 11, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Main Library. Home brewing, and the public appetite for unique craft brews, are both hopping right now. If you'd like to join the trend, learn how to get started with tips and techniques from Brice Swanson and other members of the MUGZ brewing group. Adults, age 21 and up. No registration required.

Sylvan Slough, Fact and Fiction, Thurs, Feb. 25, 2:00 to 3:30 pm, Main Library. In this special co-presentation, Professor Curtis Roseman presents a talk on the natural, historical, and industrial significance of Sylvan Slough, including the island's place in the development of Moline, its role in supplying water power to industry, and the multiple bridges that connected it to the mainland. On the fiction side, A Novelist Looks at Sylvan Slough, Chuck Oestreich will read from his work, Sylvan Slough, and discuss what inspired him to make this small island the setting of his second book. No registration is required.

If your interests include movies or art, the library offers some monthly programs to take advantage of:

Adult Coloring Nights are offered at 6:00 pm on the last Monday of the each month through March at the Main Library. Upcoming dates include Jan. 25, Feb. 29, and March 28, 2016. Participants can relax as they color and wide variety of creative designs for adults.. Art supplies, coloring pages, and refreshments will be provided. Registration is not required.

Rock Island Library Independent movie nights are offered on the first Thursday of each month at the Main Library. The February 4 movie starts at 6:00 pm, and runs for 94 minutes.  Shown in French with English subtitles, the movie is based on a true story of a blind, deaf French girl who learns to communicate, thanks to the efforts of a young nun at the Larnay Institute in central France. Independent movies are not rated, so content may not be suitable for all audiences.
