DES MOINES, Iowa – During a meeting of the Waterloo Rotary Club, Chuck Grassley responded to a question asking why some Republicans have decided to not support Trump by saying “I don’t know.” His answer shows ignorance of Donald Trump’s inexperience and complete lack of understanding of issues facing our nation, multitude of offensive comments, allegations against his businesses of fraud and cheating, and the shocking number of women who allege he has sexually assaulted or harassed them.
“Chuck Grassley claiming to not know why other Republicans stand up to Donald Trump and refuse to endorse is either a lie or shows a shocking ignorance about Trump and his antics,” said Patty Judge Campaign Spokesperson Sam Roecker. “National security experts don’t support Trump because they’re scared of what he’ll do with the nuclear launch codes. Veterans don’t support Trump because of his attacks against John McCain, POWs, and the families of fallen soldiers. Immigrants don’t support Donald Trump because he wants to institute a deportation machine in our country and screen refugees based on their religion. Women don’t support Donald Trump because of his offensive comments that degrade and objectify women. And parents don’t support Trump because he is a horrible, horrible role model for our children. The only leaders still backing Donald Trump are Chuck Grassley and other Republicans who place party before country.”
Chuck Grassley’s answer can be viewed on the Waterloo Rotary Club’s Facebook page here. The question and answer starts at 19:50. His answer transcribed is below:
Chuck Grassley: “I think it’s party, you know it’s who starts this, is it the left hand or the right hand that starts. I think it’s been reciprocal from both standpoints. Seems to me like he has not said support about members that are running for Congress, and maybe some Republicans have felt the same thing about him. That’s the only answer I can give you. I don’t know, because I don’t know. I’ve had a couple face to face meetings with Trump, but you never really sit down and have a conversation.” [emphasis added]
