DES MOINES, Iowa – Once again showing that he eagerly puts the Republican Party before Iowans, Chuck Grassley spent Thursday evening fundraising for Dr. Christopher Peters, a Congressional candidate in the 2nd District. Grassley’s support for Dr. Peters comes despite the Congressional candidate’s opposition to federal programs that protect family farmers and support growth and innovation in the renewable fuels industry.

In response to a question asking whether he would support greater protections for farmers in the new Farm Bill, Dr. Peters not only said no but argued that all protections would be removed:

“The short answer is I don’t. I think it ultimately is something that is going to have to be unwound. I think we are making farmers too reliant on a federal program that may or may not be present in the future.”

“Once again, Chuck Grassley is placing the Republican Party before Iowa and America,” said Campaign Spokesperson Sam Roecker. “Chuck Grassley is actively spending time fundraising and campaigning for a candidate who wants to pull important protections for family farmers and dismantle the Renewable Fuel Standard. If anyone ever believed Chuck Grassley had an ounce of independence left despite standing beside Donald Trump, Grassley’s support of a candidate who wants Congress to destroy Iowa’s economy will certainly shake those beliefs.”
