DES MOINES, Iowa – Reports reveal that Chuck Grassley’s politicization of the Judiciary Committee doesn’t stop with obstructing the Supreme Court for a Trump presidency. He and his staff have also used Grassley’s position as Chairman to coordinate with conservative organizations and Grassley’s own campaign to push a Republican partisan agenda.

A recent affidavit released by the FBI revealed that Judiciary Committee staff coordinated with the conservative group Judicial Watch to launch a political attack on Hillary Clinton. When Chuck Grassley’s staff was initially unable to secure funding from other sources, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich directed them to Judicial Watch, an extreme conservative organization known for targeting Democratic officials. After getting in touch with the Grassley staffer, Judicial Watch began an unprecedented political attack campaign against Clinton that, not surprisingly, complemented Chuck Grassley’s taxpayer-funded investigation.

This strictly partisan coordination follows a pattern of Chuck Grassley using Judiciary Committee staff for political reasons. Recent campaign finance reports show that Chuck Grassley paid thousands of dollars for “Management Consulting” from his campaign account to Kolan Davis, Chief Counsel and Staff Director of Grassley’s Judiciary Committee.

“With Chuck Grassley paying a senior Judiciary Committee staffer from his campaign account and his staff coordinating partisan attacks with a conservative organization known for frivolous lawsuits, it’s no wonder the partisanship of this committee has exploded under Chuck Grassley,” said Patty Judge Spokesperson Sam Roecker. “Whether it’s coordinating funding for a partisan watchdog group, using committee staff to moonlight for his campaign, or preventing the Supreme Court from operating as Constitutionally designed, Chuck Grassley’s Judiciary Committee is one of the most politically charged organizations in this country. Unfortunately, once again Chuck Grassley is placing Republican party politics before country.”
