Grassley under 50, leads by only single digits, approval remains under 50 percent

DES MOINES, Iowa – As his name suddenly appears on POLITICO's Senate Race Rankings, the first general election poll in the Iowa U.S Senate race shows Chuck Grassley vulnerable heading into the final months of his reelection campaign.

According to a poll conducted by PPP, Patty Judge begins her general election campaign with 41 percent of the vote to Chuck Grassley’s 48 percent. Grassley’s favorability also remains historically low, with 42 percent saying they have an unfavorable view to only 49 percent favorable. No challenger to Grassley has ever received more than 34 percent in a general election.

“Chuck Grassley is exceedingly vulnerable in 2016 and he’s in for a race unlike any other during his 36 years in the U.S. Senate,” said Patty Judge Campaign Manager Sam Roecker. “Patty Judge will continue to hold Chuck Grassley accountable for his obstruction and inaction in the U.S. Senate. Patty knows it’s time to restore Iowa common sense in Washington and she has the background and experience to do that.”

Grassley’s general election campaign has gotten off to a rocky start. Grassley was one of the only Republicans to defend Donald Trump after he criticized U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, resulting in a blistering editorial from the Des Moines Register last week.
