DAVENPORT, Iowa – Oct. 4, 2016 – Patients seeking surgical treatment for severe obesity and its related conditions have a high-quality, experienced choice for receiving care close to home.

The Genesis Center for Weight Management program, which has the experience of more than 1,600 weight-loss procedures, has earned national accreditation by meeting the highest standards for patient safety and quality of care.

The Genesis program has been accredited under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

The accreditation designates that Genesis bariatric surgical patients receive multidisciplinary care, not just a surgical procedure. Comprehensive programs improve patient outcomes and lead to long-term success.

“The Genesis Center for Weight Management is committed to providing a high quality of care and a comprehensive program of care for patients seeking a solution to severe obesity and related complications,’’ said Kim Higby, RN, CBN and clinical coordinator of the Genesis Center for Weight Management. “We believe that our patients are our patients for life and we take pride not only in our quality of care, surgical success and patient outcomes, but our continuing comprehensive care of patients following surgery.’’

To earn accreditation, the Genesis Center for Weight Management met criteria for staffing, training, facility infrastructure and protocols for care, ensuring the center’s ability to support patients with severe obesity. The center also participates in a national data registry that yields reports on the quality of its processes and outcomes.

After submitting an application, centers seeking accreditation undergo an extensive site visit.

In the United States, approximately 15.5 million people suffer from severe obesity, according to the National Institutes of Health, and the numbers continue to increase. Obesity increases the risks of morbidity and mortality because of the diseases and conditions that are commonly associated with obesity, including type II diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
