DAVENPORT, Iowa – Feb. 5, 2016 – Applications are now being accepted for the Genesis Health System Foundation nursing student scholarships.
This nursing student scholarship program provides $10,000 scholarships for students seeking admission to an undergraduate baccalaureate program in nursing. Applicants who have already been accepted into a program are also qualified.
The scholarships are awarded as forgivable loans. Repayment is waived once the scholarship recipients have completed a two-year employment period at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport or Genesis Medical Center, Silvis.
Scholarship applicants must live in Clinton, Des Moines, Jackson, Louisa, Muscatine or Scott counties in Iowa or Henry, Mercer, Rock Island or Whiteside counties in Illinois to qualify. Recipients can use the scholarship to attend any baccalaureate nursing program in Iowa or Illinois.
Degree completion scholarships of up to $4,000 will be awarded to nurses currently employed by Genesis Health System who complete BSN or MSN degrees.
“These scholarship programs allow Genesis to recruit and retain nurses who are critical to our outstanding patient outcomes,’’ said Jackie Anhalt, Vice President Patient Services and Chief Nurse Executive. “We know from studies that patient outcomes improve when nurses use the critical decision-making skills acquired in BSN and MSN programs.’’
Genesis Medical Center, Davenport is the only Magnet-designated hospital in the Quad Cities. Magnet designation is considered to be the highest recognition of nursing excellence.
In addition to nursing scholarship programs, ASSET scholarships are available to children, grandchildren and legal dependents of qualified Genesis employees. The $1,000 scholarships are for students enrolled in two-year or four-year programs in healthcare, wellness, science, technology, engineering, math or related programs.
The deadline for application for scholarships is March 31. Scholarship recipients will be notified in May 2016. Additional information and applications are available at

Funding for scholarship programs at Genesis comes from a variety of sources, including the annual Genesis Pro-Am Classic golf event in August.
