Make a Mug program, Tuesday, June 7, 3:00 to 4:30 pm, Rock Island 30/31 Branch. Decorate a mug that reflects your own special style, and learn some great recipes for fast mug meals. They're easy and delicious. Directions provided on how to set the colors at home.
Library Mini Golf, Friday, June 17, 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Main Library Community Room. Come to the Main Library and play 18 holes of library mini golf. Putt your way around our young adult reading course, and challenge your friends. Keep track of your score - prizes for top scorers who complete all 18 holes
Teen and Tween Gaming Night - Thurs, June 23, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Main Library Community Room. Get in the game this summer with gaming nights at your library! Play our Xbox 360, Wii games, board games and snack while you game. This special night is for both "tweens" (kids from ages 8 to 12) and teens (ages 12 to 18.) The library will hold a teen only gaming night on July 28, also from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Rock Island Main Library.
Teen Superhero Night - Tuesday, June 28, 5:00 to 7:30 pm, Main Library Community Room. Enjoy a free movie and popcorn, make a superhero collage, and even create your own graphic novel. Make up your own superhero.
Teen Life Size Gaming, Thursday, July 7, 3:00 to 4:30 pm, Southwest Branch Community Room. Come play a life Size board game outside at Southwest Branch. Try your hand at chess, Scrabble, and more! If it rains, we'll move the fun inside, so plan on it, rain or shine.
Teen Anime Night, Thursday, July 14, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Main Library Community Room. Anime fans, come to the Main Library to watch anime from the library's Crunchyroll anime subscription, enjoy Japanese snacks, and learn to write Japanese hiragana characters.
Teen Tie Dye, Tuesday, July 19, 1:00 to 3:00 pm, 30/31 Branch. Create a wearable work of art! Bring an article of clothing with you - t-shirt, socks, cotton scarf, etc, - and tie-dye it. Take it home, wash it, and amaze your friends when you wear your unique creation.
With the exception of the Teen/Tween Gaming Night, all events are for ages 12 to 18. Events are free and do not require registration.
The Rock Island Library's On Your Mark, Get Set, READ! reading games run from June 4 to July 16. Participants who finish their reading challenges earn extra reward in the form of an entry into the Rock Island Readers' Cup, a special summer sweepstakes presented by the Rock Island Library and Rock Island Parks Department.
