(DES MOINES) –Gov. Terry E. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds today released the following statements after learning of the passing of former Chief Justice W. Ward Reynoldson:

“It is with sadness that I learned former Chief Justice Ward Reynoldson passed away today,” said Branstad.  “Justice Reynoldson swore me in both as an attorney in 1974 and as Governor in 1983.  He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a dedicated public servant with a distinguished career as Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court.  I always had great admiration and respect for him and he will be greatly missed.”

Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds added, “My thoughts and prayers are with Chief Justice Reynoldson’s family at this time.  He served our country, state, my home county of Clarke and home city of Osceola.  I am grateful to him for his service, leadership and the impact he had on our community.  He leaves behind a tremendous legacy.”
