PLUG THE LEAKS: HEALTH IMPACTS, EVACUATIONS AND RISKS TO PROPERTY SHOWS NEED FOR URGENCY IN MOVING FORWARD ON CLEAN ENERGY, CLEAN AIR GOALS

DAVENPORT – This Sunday, February 28, Moms Clean Air Force will join with Pastor Rich Hendricks of Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities and Dr. Maureen McCue of Physicians for Social Responsibility.  This event will unite concerned parents and community members with doctors and faith leaders to discuss the impacts methane leaks and the resulting pollution and climate change have on children’s health in the Midwest.

Moms Clean Air Force and Metropolitan Community Church will host a press conference and rally  to highlight how methane leaks from the oil and gas industry impact us and our health today and could have a devastating toll on our children’s future. Proposals to regulate methane leaks from the oil and gas industry are on the table at the EPA, but these proposals don’t include limiting the leaks of 1.7 million producing oil and gas wells in the US.  In order to limit the impacts that methane leaks have on our health and our future, the EPA must include the millions of existing sources in their new rule.

Speakers include: Pastor Rich Hendricks, who will talk about the biblical responsibility of environmental stewardship; Crystal Yost of Moms Clean Air Force, who will talk about living near Unconventional Gas Development in Pittsburgh and the impacts it has had on her family and community; and Dr. Maureen McCue, Physicians for Social Responsibility, who will discuss the risks of fossil fuel extraction and the solutions that will keep impacts to our health, property, and future to a minimum.

WHAT:                  A press conference and rally to discuss how methane leaks from oil and gas industry impact the Quad Cities and the need for action to build a sustainable future for Iowa and Illinois.

WHEN:                  Sunday, February 28th, 12:30pm

WHERE:                Metro Community Church,  2930 W Locust Street, Davenport, IA
