Just as farmers continue to work hard to harvest this year's crop, we know you as media are working just as hard to cover Iowa's corn harvest from many angles. Below are a few resources and ideas we would like to provide to you for your Harvest 2016 coverage.
* The volunteer farmer-leaders that serve the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) invite you to do ride alongs in their equipment as they harvest their crop. They also will be available to do phone interviews upon request. (These interviews will require a bit of planning and flexibility on everyone's part, and will be dependent on the weather and timing. Please contact us in advance to schedule an interview with a local farmer in your area.)
- Get a first-hand look at what it takes to bring in the harvest, and find out where the corn goes after it leaves the field.
- Learn more about a farmer's economic outlook is for this coming year, and where he/she expects prices to go from here.
- While riding in the combine, take note of the grassy waterways, terraces, cover crops and other conservation measures Iowa corn farmers are employing to make sure their soil and nutrients stay put.
