Davenport, IA – April 28, 2016 – Broadcasters in Iowa and Illinois honored KWQC-TV6 with more than a dozen awards in separate ceremonies over the weekend.
KWQC had a dominant showing at the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association awards, honored with more awards than any other station in the Quad Cities. TV6 won first-place awards in five of the eleven categories in the smaller market division, including Outstanding News Operation, Best Newscast, and Best Spot News. The newscast and spot news categories recognized KWQC’s coverage of the March 2015 Galena train derailment. Anchor Gary Metivier and photographer Kevin Kohr also won two first-place awards, one for a story on a local veteran’s escape from a brutal firefight in Vietnam, another for a series on an Illinois boy with a rare illness. That series also earned Metivier and Kohr a first-place award in the Iowa awards. KWQC also earned second-place awards in overall excellence in reporting and best newscast.
