L&D15 was just awarded a grant from Quad City Arts to run a multi-session silkscreen workshop with junior high students from Davenport’s Creative Arts Academy.

Co-owner David Balluff developed the workshop as a way to give junior high students in Davenport a hands-on artistic experience. Since art is an elective in junior high, Balluff will work with the Creative Arts Academy and Nick DiGioia, who teaches 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the Davenport School District.

Students will not only learn about silkscreening, but will also design and print their own t-shirt. The workshop will run for five sessions, and include a variety of print making activities.

New classes at L&D15

Co-owner David Balluff will begin leading a series of arts related workshops this Spring, beginning with an Introduction to Silkscreen workshop, and an unusual Color workshop where participants will make their own paint. Classes run for two and a half hours, and the class fee covers all materials, and a complimentary glass of wine. For registration, visit L&D15’s website.

On Wednesday, April 27, and Tuesday, May 24, Balluff will be leading a Introduction to Silkscreen workshop, where participants will learn the basics of silkscreening, create using Andy Warhol’s underpainting technique, and leave class with a set of custom made postcards.

Balluff is also offering an unusual Introduction to Color class on Wednesday, May 11, where participants will learn the basics of color theory, and make their own red, blue and yellow acrylic paints from plants, insects and tree sap.

“Color is one of the fundamentals of art, but being able to work with color is more and more a necessary 21st century skill, explains Balluff. This workshop will touch on psychology, chemistry, history and art, and I hope participants will leave feeling more confident about using color in their daily lives.“
