Explore the options with a one-stop event on April 21 at Rock Island Library

Rock Island, IL - April 15, 2016: The Rock Island Public Library will offer a one-stop college/career planning session for teens and families on"Life After High School: What's Next?" at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 21 at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street.

Offering just about everything teens and their parents need to explore college and career prep options for after high school, the event features information on how to apply for college, avoiding roommate conflicts, choosing a major, budgeting and planning for loan repayment, creating a resume, job basics, how to train for jobs that will do more than just pay your rent, and whether a gap year is right for you. Teens can take the "Geocache for College Cash" quiz from Money Smart Iowa to increase their awareness of financial literacy, and enter to win money for college or career training.

Speakers at the event include Rachel Gustafson, Associate Director of Admissions at Augustana College, Gabriella Hurtado, recruitment coordinator and admissions advisor at BlackHawk College, Tishly Herrington, assistant director for admissions and youth outreach at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, and Emily Tobin, Young Adult Librarian at Rock Island Public Library.

The event is free and does not require registration. Snacks will be served.
