Clinton Area Showboat Theatre will hold local auditions for its 2016 MainStage "Season of American Classics" which includes: The Odd Couple, The Music Man, South Pacific, Grease and The Glass Menagerie. The Intern Company's Theatre for Young Audiences Season will include: You're a Good Man Charlie Brown and A Year With Frog and Toad.
Roles are available for local actors of all ages and ethnicities in Music Man, South Pacific and Grease.
Auditions will be held February 6th and 7th from 10am to 6pm at the Mullany Theatre at Ashford University. Please prepare 32 bars of a song and bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Some of those auditioning will be asked to attend the dance callback at 5pm each night. Please email krisjdoss@hotmail.com for an appointment. Teenagers interested in interviewing for the professional intern company are asked to prepare a one minute monologue in addition to the song. Please email krisjdoss@hotmail.com for an application packet and handbook.
The theme of the 2016 Clinton Area Showboat Theatre season is: A Season of American Classics.
The first production will be the classic Neil Simon comedy, The Odd Couple, from June 2-11. Second in the lineup is the truly Iowan musical The Music Man, by Meredith Wilson, June 16 to July 4th. The third offering of the summer will be the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific, July 8-17. In keeping with the American Classic theme, the fourth show will be the 50's rocknroll musical Grease! on July 21-31. The final production of the 2016 season will be Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie August 4-13.
Not only will the shows evoke memories, but some of the professional company will return from past seasons on the Showboat. Jay Berkow will return to reprise the role of Harold Hill in The Music Man. Mr. Berkow was Producing Artistic Director of the Showboat for 9 years, beginning in 1998. The role of Emile De Becque in South Pacific will be played by Gregory Lee Harrell. Showboat patrons will remember Mr. Harrell in Phantom and Victor Victoria.
Upcoming events include a Trivia Contest on March 18th at Gil's, a picnic before the June 18th production of Music Man, and a luau before the July 9th performance of South Pacific.
