Only 42 percent of Iowans have positive feelings toward Grassley, majority agree he is not taking an independent stand on SCOTUS nomination
DES MOINES, Iowa – New polling shows Chuck Grassley’s favorability ratings have taken a sharp hit, with a majority of Iowa voters critical of his refusal to hold confirmation hearings on a Supreme Court nominee.
POLITICO reports that only 42 percent of voters have a favorable view of Grassley – a sharp decline from past polling in the state. Additionally, according to Hart Research, who conducted the poll, “one in five voters who otherwise might be inclined to support Grassley indicates that this issue could drive them away from him, and half of undecided voters also say this issue would make them less likely to be with Grassley in November.”
“It’s not surprising that Chuck Grassley agrees this is going to be his toughest race ever,” said Patty Judge for Iowa Campaign Manager Sam Roecker. “Iowans overwhelmingly agree that this kind of obstruction has to stop in Washington. Patty Judge will be the leader Iowans need in Washington – she will be their voice for returning common sense and hard work to the U.S. Senate.”
At the end the survey, 60 percent of poll respondents agreed with this statement: “Instead of taking an independent stand as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chuck Grassley is letting Republican Party leaders like Mitch McConnell call the shots and is acting like a follower, not a leader.
