Grassley favorability down to 44, majorities disapprove of SCOTUS handling and trusting Trump to nominate the next justice
DES MOINES, Iowa – New polls out today show Chuck Grassley exceedingly vulnerable as a result of his handling of the Supreme Court vacancy:
- Grassley Favorability Down to 44%, Iowans Disagree with SCOTUS Handling. According to a poll from the Center for American Progress, Chuck Grassley’s favorability rating among Iowa voters has dropped to 44 percent – drastically lower than Grassley’s historical ratings in the state. The poll also finds 54 percent of Iowans oppose the Republican leadership’s handling of the Supreme Court vacancy, with only 38 percent supporting it. Additionally, 63 percent say Senate Republicans are blocking a hearing “mostly for political reasons.”
- Grassley Does, But Americans Don’t Trust Trump to Fill the SCOTUS Vacancy. According to a poll from Americans United for Change, “Only 38% of voters nationally trust Donald Trump to nominate a Supreme Court justice, compared to 53% who don’t trust him to do that. Only 57% of voters even within his own party trust Trump to make a selection, and more than 80% of Democrats as well as a majority of independents don’t trust him with that responsibility.”
“It’s undeniable that voters realize that Chuck Grassley is no longer listening to the needs of Iowans,” said Patty Judge for Iowa Campaign Manager Sam Roecker. “While Chuck Grassley continues to obstruct confirmation hearings and stand with Donald Trump, Patty Judge is talking with Iowans about how we can grow our economy, strengthen education, and create a brighter future for working families.”
