At the end of the day many businesses and organizations in the Quad Cities do something that makes them stand out from others. Instead of throwing edible food away, they donate it, and the Food Rescue Partnership has developed a program to recognize these area businesses and organizations.
"We are excited to announce the official launch of the Donor Recognition Program to showcase the efforts taken by those in the Quad Cities committed to providing much needed food to the food insecure in our community - a startling 1 in 8 people, 1 in 5 children," says Pete Vogel, board chair of the Food Rescue Partnership.
“Donating excess food not only helps to get food to people that need it, but it also helps reduce the amount of food waste being sent to the landfill.”
The program launched to partnership stakeholders recently and Outback Steakhouse in Davenport, IA was recognized as the inaugural Member in Food Rescue at a ceremony on July 1. The program is available to any Quad Cities business or organization that regularly donates food to a local non-profit hunger relief agency including restaurants, schools, grocery stores, business cafeterias, hospitals, etc.
The primary goal of the Food Rescue Partnership is to make sure food gets to people, rather than landfills, so the partnership hopes that through the Donor Recognition Program businesses and organizations already taking part in food rescue can be recognized and others will be encouraged to start food rescue programs.
There is no cost to become a Member in Food Rescue. To apply for the program or learn how to get started in food rescue, visit foodrescueqc.org.

About the Food Rescue Partnership. Initially created by the Scott County Health Department in 2013, the Food Rescue Partnership is now a community-led coalition committed to rescuing food throughout the Quad Cities that would otherwise be thrown away, by informing and engaging the public, and by fostering partnerships among food establishments, the Foodbank, food pantries, meal sites, and shelters.
