Top Honors Awarded in Iowa State Fair FFA Market and Carcass Lamb Show

DES MOINES, IA (08/09/2014)(readMedia)-- Grand Champion honors were awarded Thursday in the FFA Market and Carcass Lamb shows at the 2014 Iowa State Fair.

Tanner Berry of Sac City showed the Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb, and Chelsea Nelson of Exira took Reserve Grand Champion honors.

In the carcass judging, Megan Collison of Rockwell City earned Grand Champion honors while James Leonard of Newton received the Reserve Grand Champion banner.

The judges saw 367 animals from 136 exhibitors in the Market Lamb division and 77 animals from 50 exhibitors in the Carcass division.

The event is sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement, a non-profit organization established to encourage the pursuit of agriculture-related careers by Iowa's youth.

 

Watkins FFA Member Wins Grand Champion Market Pig at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/09/2014)(readMedia)-- Erin Schmidt of Watkins showed the Grand Champion Market Pig at the FFA Market Swine contest judged Thursday during the 2014 Iowa State Fair.

Alexis Delaney of DeWitt claimed Reserve Grand Champion Market Pig honors.

Luke Worden of Belmond won Champion Purebred Market Swine honors, and Cory Sampson of Nevada received Reserve Champion Purebred Market Swine honors.

Nearly 250 exhibits showed 568 animals in this year's competition.
