Fact #28: Grassley won’t reject Trump because “there’s only a few saints who have been President” (Oct 11th)

DES MOINES, Iowa – While many Republican senators have rejected Donald Trump, Chuck Grassley continues to stand by his side.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Grassley said he is unwilling to reject Donald Trump – even after Trump was caught bragging about sexual assault – because, “there’s only a few saints who have been President of the United States.”

Grassley’s comment and the growing list of Republican senators rejecting Trump are highlighted in a new web video, available online here

“It’s shameful that Chuck Grassley won’t do the right thing and reject Donald Trump,” said Patty Judge Spokesperson Sam Roecker. “This isn’t a simple matter of Donald Trump not being a saint – he’s a presidential nominee who was caught disgustingly bragging about sexual assault. While many Republicans are willing to reject Trump, there seems to be no end to Chuck Grassley’s support.”

Fact #30: While Republican leaders flee Trump, Chuck Grassley calls on Iowans to be missionaries for his campaign (Oct 9th)
After presidential candidate is caught bragging about sexual assault, Chuck Grassley still trusts his judgment on the Supreme Court

DES MOINES, Iowa – Speaking at a fundraiser for the Republican Party of Iowa last night, Chuck Grassley doubled down on his support and trust of Donald Trump, while many Iowa and national Republicans have pledged to not vote for Trump.

Speaking to Republicans last night, Grassley closed his speech by calling on them to support the entire Republican ticket:

“So, I hope that as you go around to be a missionary for the Republican Party and Republican candidates this time, up and down the ticket, that you will remind people how important this election is for the direction of the Supreme Court” [Radio Iowa, 10/8/16]

“Chuck Grassley’s steadfast support of Donald Trump is deeply disturbing,” said Patty Judge Spokesperson Sam Roecker. “Chuck Grassley is asking Iowans to place their trust in someone who brags about sexual assault and who has spent months making dangerous and disgusting statements about women, minorities, and other Americans, to pick our next Supreme Court Justice. Iowans are wondering if there will ever be an end to Chuck Grassley putting his party before his country. Chuck Grassley needs to be asked if there’s anything Donald Trump could do that would cause him to rescind his endorsement.”

Already at least sixteen Republican Senators and candidates for Senate have rescinded their support of Donald Trump, including Senator John McCain, and Iowa’s neighboring Senators, Mark Kirk (R-IL), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Ben Sasse (R-NE), and John Thune (R-SD).

42 Years, 42 Problems. For the final 42 days of the 2016 campaign, Patty Judge’s campaign will celebrate Chuck Grassley’s 42 years in Washington by highlighting 42 problems that he has to address as he seeks reelection at 42years.com. Each day the campaign will release a new fact that highlights how he has changed and turned his back on Iowans over the past 42 years in Washington.

As Republican Senators denounce Trump, Grassley stands firmly beside him (Oct 8th)

DES MOINES, Iowa – In response to Donald Trump’s offensive and violent comments bragging about sexual assault, Republican senators across the country have announced they no longer support his candidacy for the presidency. Others, like Senator Chuck Grassley, have yet to rescind their endorsement and continue to support Donald Trump.

Patty Judge statement on Grassley’s pathetic response to Donald Trump (Oct 8th)

DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Senate candidate Patty Judge released the following statement today after Chuck Grassley refused to condemn Donald Trump’s candidacy:

“Chuck Grassley’s refusal to condemn Donald Trump’s candidacy following the revelation of Trump’s disgusting statements about sexual assault is pathetic. This morning, Chuck Grassley dismissed the harmful impact of these comments and said he was instead focused ‘on the issues.’ Senator Grassley’s denial that preventing sexual violence is a serious issue should offend all Iowans. I would not stand idly by and continue to support a presidential candidate who has repeatedly expressed such disdain for women. It’s outrageous that Chuck Grassley continues to blindly support Donald Trump, the man for whom he’s holding a Supreme Court vacancy. Senator Grassley’s weak statement is inexcusable and he owes Iowa families an explanation as to why he continues to support a candidate who openly bragged about sexual assault. This is not the leadership Iowans deserve in the U.S. Senate.”

Chuck Grassley supports Trump, says presidential candidates “ought to set a very high standard”  (Oct 7th)

Grassley continues to support presidential candidate exposed for discussing sexual harassment of women

DES MOINES, Iowa – During a meeting with the Sioux City Journal editorial board this week, Chuck Grassley claimed that he believes presidential candidates should be civil and set a high standard for the rest of society. In the same breath, he stood behind his steadfast support of Donald Trump, support that he expressed “a long time ago” and has felt no need to withdraw despite Trump’s continued offensive and outrageous statements, including recently released audio of Trump making lewd comments about harassing women.

This week, Chuck Grassley said: “there may be a little less civility within our society as a whole, but presidential candidates should not reflect that. They ought to set a very high standard.”

“There are no words to describe how disgusting Donald Trump is,” said Patty Judge Spokesperson Sam Roecker. “Donald Trump is a terrible role model for our children and country. Since he won’t withdraw his endorsement of Donald Trump, Chuck Grassley was either lying when he said he believes presidential candidates should set a very high standard or for some unfathomable reason Grassley thinks Donald Trump is the type of person our children should aspire to be.”

Chuck Grassley’s silence has been deafening every time his endorsed nominee for the President of the United States insults anyone, but especially women. Grassley remained silent after Trump’s sexist attack on Megyn Kelly; Grassley refused to say anything when Trump attacked former Miss Universe Alicia Machado; in fact, Grassley has remained silent on the lack of an apology from Trump over the past 20 years of insulting women.
