Rock Island, IL: Preschoolers will be learning language through music at the August 18 Hug-A-Book event from Rock Island Public Library. The Hug-A-Book Sing-Play-Grow! early learning program is Thursday, Aug. 18, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Rock Island Main Library Community Room, 401 19th Street.

Christina Heald, of West Music, will lead music and play activities proven to build early learning and language skills in children ages two to five. Each child will also receive a new book to take home. The event is free. No registration is required.

The Every Child Ready to Read model uses the talk, sing, read, write, play approach to teach important learning skills that are critical to later success in school. This learning model exposes children to a significant amount of words and language even before they learn to read.

The Hug-A-Book early learning series is sponsored by the Merrill Harris Fund of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation. The next event in the series is October 19.
