Bettendorf, IA, April 27, 2016 – Emilia Porubcin, a junior at Rivermont Collegiate attained national recognition for her excellent performance on the 2016 National Spanish Examinations. Emilia earned a gold medal in the exam along with a National Award. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 160,000 students participating in 2016.”

Students from Rivermont Collegiate have a long history of high achievement on these exams. "I am very proud of Emilia, she is a bright young lady and a pleasure to work with," said Samanta Schmelzer, Spanish Instructor at Rivermont Collegiate. "Emilia understands topics and grammatical concepts easily and always delivers excellent results."

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
