Rock Island, IL: Teens with a taste for Japanese-style animation, called anime, can explore their interests next Tuesday with a free Teen Anime Night from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Rock Island Library.

The free event for ages 12 to 18 will be held at the Main Library building downtown, 401 19th Street.

Activities at the July 14 event include munching on Japanese snacks, learning how to write Japanese characters, and watching selections from Crunchyroll, a popular anime-streaming website. Many anime titles are based on Japanese comic books known as manga, including Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist and Tokyo Ghoul.

The library's Every Hero Has a Story for children and Escape the Ordinary teen and adult reading contests run until July 18. The reading incentives and more than 60 free events for all ages help keep children, teens and adults active, productive and learning over the summer.
