Rock Island, IL: Winter cold got you down? Is your teen getting cabin fever? Warm up at your Rock Island Library with free events for teens in December and January.
The Rock Island Library will offer a Teen Iron Chef Contest and a Dr. Who Party in December. The monthly Teen Iron Chef contest is from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 16 at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street. Teens choose from a selection of wildly diverse ingredients and make a plated dish to test their culinary skills against other teens for the next Iron Chef crown. The event is offered again at 6:30 pm on Monday, Jan. 13, so if your dish doesn't make the cut one month, there's always another chance.
With so many regenerations, Dr. Who doesn't look a day over 35, but the series just marked its 50th anniversary. On Thurs., Dec. 19, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the library will celebrate the anniversary with a Dr. Who Party with trivia, prizes, and snacks fit for a Time Lord. Hop in your personal TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space) machine and come to the Main Library to celebrate!
In January, teens can break through cabin fever with a Teen Gaming Night with Xbox 360 and Wii games at 6:00 pm on Jan. 23, and a party that celebrates all things Sherlock on Thurs, Jan. 30, both at the Main Library. The Sherlock Holmes party includes a mystery to solve, snacks for the Great Detective and Watson, trivia, and prizes.
All teen events are for ages 12 to 18.
