MOLINE, IL – WQPT in partnership with Mickle Communications is devoting a full night of programming on March 31 to the topic of teen suicide and depression. “Mike Mickle of Mickle Communications approached me about the topic and we decided that rather than doing a single show, we would create a night of programming that would be beneficial for families to sit and watch together,” said Lora Adams WQPT Director of Marketing and Local Content.

The evening begins at 7 pm with “The Cities with Jim Mertens.”  Jim interviews Christine Schmidt, whose daughter committed suicide in April 2014. Mrs. Schmidt is also featured in the local documentary "If We Only Knew" at 8 pm. At 7:30 pm “The Whitney Reynolds Show,” talks with Dr. Edmond Yomtoob, PsyD and Cara Levinson, who also lost her daughter to suicide. Following the  new documentary from Mickle Communications on local suicide cases and their aftermath, Mike Mickle   interviews teenagers about their feelings about bullying, suicide and depression in a round table discussion "Teens Talk." At 9 pm “Losing Lambert: A Journey Through Survival & Hope” and at 10pm “Misunderstood Epidemic: Depression.”

“It is our hope that by devoting the night to this topic we can help to provide resources to families dealing with depression,” said Adams.

WQPT is a media service of Western Illinois University.
