No-Cost or Low-Cost YMCA Memberships Available for Eligible Medicare Beneficiaries

KANSAS CITY, MO – January 6, 2016 – The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is now providing the Silver&Fit® Exercise and Healthy Aging Program at its 14 locations throughout the greater Kansas City area. The Silver&Fit program offers Medicare beneficiaries no-cost or low-cost memberships to participating fitness facilities like the Y.

The Silver&Fit program was designed to help older adults achieve improved health by providing them with no-cost or low-cost access to contracted health and wellness programs across the country.

“Silver&Fit is one of the largest and fastest-growing fitness programs serving the Medicare market,” said ASH Fitness Vice President Brett Hanson, MBA, MBF, DFSS, NASM-SFS. “We’re very pleased to team up with the YMCA of Greater Kansas City.”

“We are looking forward to being able to help more seniors achieve greater health and well-being as part of the Silver&Fit network,” said John Mikos, chief operating officer for the YMCA of Greater Kansas City.  “Regular exercise has been proven to improve quality of life for aging adults, and the Y also offers important opportunities for seniors to connect with others through social activities.”

For more information about whether your Medicare plan includes the Silver&Fit program, please contact your health plan or 1-800-MEDICARE. Qualified individuals or couples can call 816.561.9622, visit KansasCityYMCA.org or stop their local Y for class schedules and other information.

In the most recently completed survey of randomly selected Silver&Fit members, conducted by an independent research firm, 98 percent of respondents expressed overall satisfaction with the Silver&Fit fitness facility program and said they would recommend it. In addition, more than 76 percent of members said their participation in the Silver&Fit program has helped them make friends and improve their social network. Scientific evidence indicates that social and physical activity programs can improve emotional and physical well-being for older adults, as well as overall quality of life.

The Silver&Fit program is available to people who are Medicare-eligible and have purchased Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement coverage that includes the Silver&Fit program as a benefit.
