ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (December 2, 2025) — Augustana College's John Deere Planetarium will present its annual holiday planetarium show, Season of Light, on December 6-12.

Shows will be offered Saturday and Sunday at 2PM and 3PM, and weekdays at 7PM. Doors will open fifteen minutes before each show. Latecomers will not be admitted. The program is not recommended for children ages seven and under.

The planetarium is located at 820 38th Street in Rock Island. Admission is free, but reservations are required. To register, visit seasonoflight2025.eventbrite.com.

Augustana’s Planetarium Director Dr Lee Carkner will lead the shows. Created by Loch Ness Productions, Season of Light uses images, video, animation, and sound to tell the story of how holiday traditions are connected to the sky above. Season of Light also explains the seasons and the winter constellations and speculates about the Star of Bethlehem.

Astronomy images and artifacts from the Apollo program and a quarter-ton piece of the Canyon Diablo meteorite will be on display at the Getz-Rogers Gallery, located in the John Deere Planetarium lobby.

Augustana’s Fryxell Geology Museum, which is adjacent to the planetarium, will also be open to the public December 6-7, 1-4PM, and 7:30-8:30PM, December 8-12.
