DES MOINES, IOWA (July 21, 2022) — Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 2.6 percent in June — down from 2.7 percent in May and back to its pre-pandemic level. Iowa establishments added 5,100 jobs in June as the Labor Force Participation Rate also increased to 67.8 percent, up from 67.6 percent last month. The US unemployment rate remained at 3.6 percent in June.

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 20, 2022) — Secretary of State Paul Pate announces Iowans registered the highest number of new business entities in state history during the 2022 fiscal year. 33,331 new businesses registered with the Secretary of State’s Office between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022. The mark breaks the previous record of 33,260 set last year.

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 19, 2022) — Finding qualified workforce continues to stifle recovery for many Iowa restaurants and bars, according to survey data from the Iowa Restaurant Association. More than half of respondents (52%) ranked finding qualified workforce as their greatest challenge — with more than one-third operating 30% below their needed staffing levels. The increased cost of labor and the increased cost of goods were a close second on the list of challenges.
