Pledges to continue fight to grow the economy, expand the middle class and make education available to everyone

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement after he was sworn in at the beginning of the 114th Congress. Loebsack, who began serving in 2007, is beginning his fifth term serving the people of Iowa's Second Congressional District.

"As the new Congress is sworn in, I am honored to be given the opportunity to continue my work on growing the economy, fighting to expand the middle class and ensuring everyone has access to the education they need to succeed in the 21st century workforce. In the nearly 500 events I held around Iowa last year, the one thing that remained constant was the desire of the people for Congress to put aside its political bickering and come together to move our nation forward. The beginning of this new Congress provides us an opportunity to do just that. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Iowa."

As the new congress convenes, Loebsack will now serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He will continue to have two district offices, in Davenport and Iowa City, and will remain in the same office in Washington.

Quad City state representatives and senators are invited to attend the forums which are free and open to the public. The forums are sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA), the Scott County Farm Bureau, the Working Iowa Neighbors Coalition of the Quad Cities Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO), the Business and Professional Women of Davenport and the Quad Cities Area Realtor Association (QCARA).

"The forums are a great opportunity for people to speak directly with elected officials and to have their questions answered," said Toby W. Paone, ISEA UniServ Director. Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc (C.O.P.S.), and partnering organizations are uniting in support of law enforcement officers nationwide to promote a National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (L.E.A.D.) to be held January 9th, 2014. Locally the DPD Family Support Group with help from the Davenport Police Association is organizing a local event to be held at the Starlight Ballroom Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds from 1600-1800 hrs.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office will be holding a promotion ceremony for Correctional Officer Justin Hay who is being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the jail. The ceremony will be held Monday January 5th, 2015 at 9:00 am in the Sheriff's Office Conference Room at the Courthouse. The promotion is being made to fill a vacancy created by a retirement.

Justin Hay was born in Rock Island, IL and grew up in rural Mercer County, IL. Justin is the youngest of three and a graduate of Sherrard High School in Sherrard, IL. Justin attended Western Illinois University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement & Justice Administration while earning a minor in Security Administration.
Justin Hay started as a Corrections Officer with the Scott County Sheriff's Office on March 17, 2004. During his tenure at Scott County, Justin has received training and/or been certified as a prisoner transport officer, field training officer, and is a member of the jail's Corrections Emergency Response Team. Justin has achieved the designation of Certified Jail Officer from the American Jail Association and is an interpersonal communication instructor with the American Jail Association and the National Institute of Corrections. Justin has had the opportunity to step up and temporarily perform the tasks of the Corrections Sergeant position four times since 2011.
