AMES, IOWA (March 30, 2023) — The 2023 John Pappajohn Iowa Entrepreneurial Venture Competition application portal is now open. The eighteenth annual statewide competition will award $100,000 in cash prizes to Iowa start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures.

CLIVE, IOWA (March 29, 2023) — A Davenport woman has won a lottery prize of more than $59,000.

Stephanie Holt won a jackpot prize of $59,141 in the Iowa Lottery’s “Super 7s Progressive” InstaPlay game. She purchased her ticket at The Liquor Stop, 211 W 53rd St, Davenport, and claimed her prize Monday at the lottery’s Cedar Rapids regional office.

The Super 7s jackpot starts at $50,000 and increases with each ticket sold statewide until it is won.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (March 27, 2023) — On March 28, at 10AM, the Scott Emergency Communications Center will conduct an out-of-sequence test of emergency warning sirens in the communities of Eldridge, Long Grove, and Park View, in Scott County, Iowa. These additional tests are required to test programming changes made in those communities for the system the system that triggers sirens during an actual emergency.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 27, 2023) — Attorney General Brenna Bird has appointed Lanny Zieman as Consumer Advocate. In this role, he will lead the Consumer Advocate Division of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, which is responsible for representing the interests of consumers and the public in utility-regulation proceedings before the Iowa Utilities Board and in court.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (March 27, 2023) — On March 25, 12PM, parents and union members rallied together at the UFCW Local 431 hall in Davenport to speak out about the recent Iowa Child Labor Law’s proposed changes to current legislation. This rally was an opportunity for speakers to bring awareness to the community regarding the negative effects these changes could have on working teenagers in our community.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 24, 2023) — Governor Kim Reynolds has announced that she has approved ending an agreement with Workday, an enterprise software company, to update the state’s financial-management system to a cloud-based platform. After delaying the project last year for additional review, the Department of Management and Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) have determined the platform will not meet some of the state’s unique needs.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 23, 2023) — Secretary of State Paul Pate’s Iowa Businesses Against Trafficking (IBAT) initiative is one of three finalists for the National Association of Secretaries of State’s (NASS) 2023 IDEAS Award. IBAT is a member organization which raises awareness for human trafficking and promotes Safe at Home, Iowa’s address confidentiality program for victims of violent crime.
