THE QUEEN CONTEST RETURNS FOR THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI VALLEY FAIR

Davenport, Iowa (Jan. 22, 2015) -- The Mississippi Valley Fair Board of Directors is pleased to announce that a fair queen will reign over the 2015 Mississippi Valley Fair, scheduled for Tuesday through Sunday, Aug. 4-9, here at the fairgrounds.
The board is sponsoring a $500 scholarship that will go to the winner of an upcoming Mississippi Valley Fair queen contest.
In addition to being involved in fair activities, the queen will represent the Mississippi Valley Fair and Scott County at the Iowa State Fair's queen competition during the summer of 2015.
Candidates must be residents of Scott County and a member of a local service organization, such as a church group, Girl Scouts, 4-H or FFA. Contestants will be judged on leadership, community service, poise and personality.

AHL CALL-UP FOR MALLARDS LAMOUREUX

MOLINE, Ill. (January 20, 2015) - Quad City Mallards forward Mario Lamoureux has been signed to a professional tryout agreement by the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Mallards announced today.

Lamoureux, 26, is tied for fourth in the ECHL in assists (25) and tied for eighth in points (39).  Lamoureux, who has played 34 games since joining the Mallards in a trade with the Ontario Reign just after the start of the season, ranks second on the team in goals (14) and plus/minus rating (+7).  The 5' 9", 185-pound Grand Forks, North Dakota, native leads the Mallards in power play points (11) and last Friday against the Rapid City Rush scored Quad City's first shorthanded goal of the season.

Lamoureux has entered the ECHL's All-Star break on a four-game point scoring streak (3-4-7) and has recorded 13 points (seven goals and six assists) in his last ten games.  Lamoureux has notched two or more points in a game 13 times this season including in each of his last two outings and in three of his last four games.

Lamoureux returns to the AHL with the Sound Tigers after picking up an assist in three American League games with the Oklahoma City Barons last season.  Lamoureux's is the ninth AHL call-up for a Mallard this season.  Defenseman Nicholas Rioux returned to the Mallards from the AHL's Iowa Wild yesterday.

Lamoureux scored 20 goals and totaled 40 points in 46 games with Ontario last season.  He also played four games in Austria with Villacher SV, for whom he produced one goal and one assist.

Lamoureux was named to the 2012-13 ECHL All-Rookie Team after scoring 25 times and notching 65 points in 71 games for the Reign.  He broke into the professional ranks at the tail end of the 2011-12 season when he skated in two games with the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Lamoureux played college hockey in his home town for perennial power North Dakota.  UND qualified for the NCAA tournament each of Lamoureux's four seasons and in 2011 reached the Frozen Four.  He also helped North Dakota to three consecutive Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament titles and a pair of conference regular season crowns.  Lamoureux scored 17 goals and produced 46 points in 157 career collegiate games.

MALLARDS WEEKLY UPDATE: JANUARY 19, 2015

Rioux Returns to Mallards

MOLINE, Ill. (January 19, 2015) - Defenseman Nicholas Rioux has returned to the Quad City Mallards from the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild, the Mallards announced today.  

Rioux, 28, rejoins the Mallards after last Friday signing a professional tryout agreement with Iowa for the second time this season and playing for the Wild in a 4-0 loss to the Rockford IceHogs last Friday night and in a 4-1 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters the following evening.  The 6' 1", 205-pound Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, native has now played a total of five AHL games this season during which he has recorded a plus/minus rating of +1 without registering a point.  Over the last two seasons Rioux has skated in 13 games for Iowa.


Rioux has scored two goals and added twelve assists for 14 points while posting a plus/minus rating of +3 in 31 games with the Mallards this year.  His was the eighth AHL call-up for a Mallard this season.  Rioux played alongside defenseman Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who was promoted from the Mallards last month, in Des Moines.  Goaltender Parker Milner returned to the Mallards from Iowa last Thursday.

With last Friday's setback the Mallards fell to 1-4 in games settled in overtime this season.

The Mallards rank in the top ten in the ECHL in both goals scored and goals allowed per game.  They are seventh in goals against per game (2.8) and tenth in goals scored per outing (3.1).

After surviving 18 of their foes' last 19 power plays, the Mallards are now tied for ninth in the ECHL in penalty killing (84.5 percent).  The Mallards have gone 1-for-21 on the man advantage over their last four games and rank eighteenth in the league in power play efficiency (15.5 percent).

World's Toughest Rodeo Dirt Dump

One of the most obvious and important parts of a rodeo is something fans rarely consider - the dirt. Transforming an ice hockey arena into a rodeo arena without damaging the ice is a top priority for the crew of the World's Toughest Rodeo. An ice coverage system applied over the ice provides protection for the ice to insure rapid turnaround from a dirt event back to an ice event.

A lot of dirt will be trucked into the iWireless Center for the World's Toughest Rodeo, a whole lot, in fact. Close to 1,200 yards of dirt at 12 yards per dump-truck load, that's over 100 dump trucks worth of dirt equally approximately 2,000,000 lbs. of dry dirt. Just hauling in the dirt once the floor is prepared can take up to 6 hours. Once leveled it is worked over and over to allow it to dry. When finished, the dirt is 8 - 10 inches in depth and special finishing equipment is required to level and smooth out the dirt. The preparation doesn't end with dirt installation, as once the dirt is installed a portable rodeo arena arrives and the bucking chutes and arena set up is completed in another 2 hours. Requiring daily maintenance, the dirt needs to be groomed daily to continue to facilitate drying and improve the consistency.   Final touches are completed prior to the rodeo Preshow each day as well. But once the Preshow is finished it again needs to be reworked as it packs down from the foot traffic.

Another consideration of utmost importance is where you find dry, unfrozen dirt in January, in Moline, Illinois. Special arrangements for winter in arena events requiring dirt must be made well in advance. Appropriate dirt is stored in conditions that make it suitable to be trucked in and provide suitable dryness to provide stable footing for both bucking horses and barrel racing horses. How well a competitor does in a rodeo depends partially on how well the animal is able to perform, and good dirt for stable footing is a necessity for animal performance.

The World's Toughest Rodeo stage will be set for performances on January 23 and 24th at 7:30 p.m. each night. Fans are invited into the arena nightly from 6 - 7 for a fan favorite preshow including autographs with cowboys and entertainers, free pony rides for kids, or a chance of a lifetime to sit on Midnight, a 2,000 lb. bull in the bucking chutes.   Top professional competitors, John Payne, the One Armed Bandit (13 time Professional Rodeo's Specialty Entertainer of the Year, and top rodeo announcer, Roger Mooney will headline the show. Tickets are family friendly starting at $20 and kids are always half price. $5 discount coupons are available at all Casey's General Stores locations. Mallards Weekend Results

Mallards Fall to Rush in Overtime on Friday night

MOLINE, Ill. (January 16, 2015) - Cody Ferriero scored his second goal of the game at 2:06 of overtime to give the Rapid City Rush (15-20-2) a 4-3 win over the host Quad City Mallards (17-13-6) Friday night.  The Mallards, who sit in fourth place in the ECHL's Central Division, did earn one point for the sudden death defeat.

Ferriero snapped off the game winner from the slot after the Rush's Dallas Erhardt had forced overtime by scoring the tying power play goal from the left point with just 2:19 left in regulation.

It was the Mallards who had battled from behind earlier in the third period.  Mario Lamoureux swept home his second goal of the game from the high slot to even the score at two at 1:02 of the third.  Antti Pusa gave the Mallards a 3-2 lead from close range at the 9:13 mark of the final frame.

The Rush's Patrick Cullen and Ferriero scored one minute and 21 seconds apart to turn the game around in the second period.  With those two goals Rapid City turned a 1-0 Mallard lead into a 2-1 Rush advantage.  Cullen buried a rebound at 7:03 of the second; at 8:24 Ferriero put the Rush on top while toppling in the slot.

Lamoureux's shorthanded wraparound opened the scoring at 12:32 of the first period.

Mallards Stop Rush 3-1 on Sunday, January 18

MOLINE, Ill. (January 18, 2015) - Matt Duffy broke a 1-1 tie at 1:58 of the third period and the host Quad City Mallards (17-13-6) went on to defeat the Rapid City Rush (16-20-2) 3-1 Sunday.  With the win the Mallards moved into a tie for second place in the ECHL's Central Division.

Duffy's one timer from the top of the right wing circle gave the Mallards their second lead of the night.  Joe Perry's empty net goal clinched the victory with just one second left.

The Mallards had first moved in front when Justin Fox pounced on a Rapid City turnover in the slot to open the scoring at 3:47 of the first period.

The Rush's Dan Barczuk tied the game at one from close range at 10:22 of the second period.

The Mallards return to action on the road Saturday night against the Missouri Mavericks.  The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night, January 28 at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder.  Fans can get four tickets to Mallards Wednesday night home games for just $20.  After each Wednesday night home tilt, fans can join the Mallards at T.G.I. Friday's in Moline for a postgame party.

Promotion-Packed Weekend Begins Friday Night

MOLINE, Ill. (January 14, 2015) - Fans who attend the Quad City Mallards' home game Sunday at 4:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush dressed as superheroes will receive free tickets to that contest as the Mallards cap off a promotion-packed weekend with Superhero Sunday.

The Mallards have teamed with Heroes Inc. for Superhero Sunday.  Fans of any age who get in touch with their inner superpowers and arrive in superhero guise Sunday can get their seats for free at the iWireless Center box office. This Friday- and for all remaining Friday night home games- the Mallards have also joined with Rooster's Sports Bar & Grill in Rock Island to offer fans the chance to get a lower level ticket to the Mallards' game along with an appetizer and drink at Rooster's and a Metro bus ride to the game from Rooster's and back for just $20.  For more information fans can contact Rooster's at 309-283-7005.

 

After next Friday night's game fans can join Mallards players at Governor's Pub & Grill at both 3470 Middle Road in Bettendorf and 2180 53rd Street in Moline.  Kevin Baker, Matt Duffy, Darren McMillan and Nicholas Rioux will meet fans at Governor's in Bettendorf while Pearce Eviston, Evan Haney, Logan Nelson and Johnny Rogic will join the fun in Moline.

Tickets for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- including this weekend's tilts- are on sale now at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.  The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and game days from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period.  Tickets are available for $10, $16, $20 and $28.
