QUACK TRACKS
Last Weekend
The Mallards earned five of a possible six points by going 2-0-1 in three home games in 48 hours against the Brampton Beast last weekend. The Mallards rolled to a 6-1 win last Friday before squandering a 3-1 lead and falling 4-3 in overtime one night later. Yesterday it was the Mallards who came from behind, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to take the rubber match 3-2.

Streaking
While last Saturday's overtime setback did halt the Mallards' three-game winning streak, the Mallards are now unbeaten in regulation in their last nine games (5-0-4). The Mallards have lost just once in regulation in their last 12 games (7-1-4).

Deadlock
With yesterday's win the Mallards moved into a tie for sixth place with the Beast. The Mallards find themselves tied for sixth despite boasting the league's third best winning percentage (.676) because they have played fewer games (17) than any other CHL club.

Home Sweet Home
The Mallards yesterday finished a five-game home stand 4-0-1. While last Saturday's sudden death defeat ended the Mallards' five game home winning streak, the Mallards remain unbeaten in regulation in their last seven home tilts (6-0-1).

On the Road
The Mallards play their next four games- and eight of their next nine- on the road. Each of the Mallards' last four road games and five of their first six away contests went to the shootout. The Mallards won just one of those shootouts. They have gone 1-1-4 on the road overall.

Goals, Goals, Goals
The Mallards remain the league leaders in goals per game (4.1). Yesterday the Mallards for the first time this season won in regulation while scoring fewer than four goals.

Late Show
Yesterday, the Mallards got a game winning goal in the final minute of regulation- from Gergo Nagy with 27 seconds remaining- for the second time this season. Mike Hellyer scored with 55 seconds left in the Mallards' November 9 game against Denver to give the Mallards a 4-3 win over the Cutthroats.

Shorty
Yesterday's game winner was also Nagy's second shorthanded goal of the season and the Mallards' fourth man-down goal in just their last seven games. Three of those four shorthanded goals have either tied or won the game for the Mallards in the third period..

Streaking, Take 2
Jim McKenzie is on a five-game point-scoring streak (4-3-7) while Vladimir Nikiforov yesterday saw his five-game point streak (1-5-6) come to an end. Nagy has recorded seven points (three goals and four assists) in just his last four games.

Between The Pipes
Thomas Heemskerk remains unbeaten in regulation (5-0-3) and has gone 3-0-1 while playing four straight games.

Leaders
Thomas Frazee is tied for seventh in the CHL in plus/minus rating (+11) while Jeff Lee and Nicholas Roux (+10) are tied for ninth...Among rookies Frazee is tied for second in assists (12), ranks fourth in points (17) and is tied for sixth in goals (5)...Heemskerk ranks fourth in goals against average (2.68) and fifth in save percentage (.915).

Milestones
Matt Duffy collected his one hundredth career point- an assist- last Saturday after playing his one hundredth game as a Mallard last Friday...Vladimir Nikiforov recorded his two hundredth career point- an assist- last Friday...Darren McMillan has collected 96 career CHL assists...Matt Boyd has played 193 career games.

OK in OKC
Goaltender Ty Rimmer was recalled from the Mallards by the American Hockey League's Oklahoma City Blazers last Monday and last weekend went 1-0-1 in three AHL games with a 2.65 goals against average and .930 save percentage.

Special Teams
The Mallards have dipped to eighth in the CHL in power play efficiency (15.2 percent) after going 1-for-12 on the power play last weekend and 1-for-18 over their last three-plus games. Duffy's power play goal in the second period of yesterday's game ended an 0-for-16 man advantage drought for the Mallards. The Mallards rank fifth in penalty killing (83.1 percent) and are now tied for second in shorthanded goals (4).

Head to Head
Friday's game is the second of six this season between the Mallards and Rush. The Mallards dropped their opener to Rapid City 6-4 on home ice on October 19. All-time the Mallards have gone 9-7-1 against the Rush and have posted a record of 4-3-0 in Rapid City. The Mallards' Jeff Lee skated for the Rush last season while there are four former Mallards on the Rapid City roster- Jared Brown, Eric Giosa, Ryan Palmer and Bob Preece. Brown and Preece are currently on injured reserve.

Ins and Outs
In the wake of Rimmer's AHL recall last Monday the Mallards signed goaltender Nick Niedert last Tuesday..

Proclamation Recognizes Chicago Bears' Retirement of Ditka's Jersey Number 89

CHICAGO - Governor Pat Quinn today proclaimed December 9 as "Mike Ditka Day" in Illinois in recognition of the Chicago Bears' retirement of Ditka's jersey number 89 during halftime at tonight's Bears - Cowboys game in Chicago. The former Bears player and coach becomes the 14th and final player to have his number retired by the team.

"When people think of football they think of Mike Ditka," Governor Quinn said. "He was the best tight end of all time, and 'Da Coach' molded and guided arguably the best football team of all time - the 1985 Super Bowl-winning Bears. He is one of just two men to win a championship as both player and coach. I urge all Illinoisans to join me in congratulating him today."

Mike Ditka was a football standout at the University of Pittsburgh in his native Pennsylvania before being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1961, where he won Rookie of the Year. He played tight end for the Bears through 1966, was selected for the Pro Bowl each year, and was part of the championship 1963 team in the years before the advent of the Super Bowl.  While with the Bears, Ditka amassed 4,503 yards receiving, first among Bears tight ends; and 316 receptions and 34 touchdowns, placing him fifth of all Bears players.

Ditka was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 1967 and then to the Dallas Cowboys in 1969, where he played for four seasons and caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl VI. Ditka was the first tight end enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988 for his blocking, 427 career receptions for 5,812 yards, and 43 career touchdowns.

After his playing career ended, Ditka was part of the Dallas Cowboys' coaching staff from 1973 to 1981. He was named head coach of the Chicago Bears in 1982, guiding them to a Super Bowl victory in 1985, and remained as "Da Coach" through 1992. Ditka was named NFL Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1988.

Ditka has also been a sports commentator on national television and owns restaurants in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Phoenix.

Raufeisen Development announces the funding of a feasibility study regarding the development of a Regional Sports Facility to be located at Spencer Creek, a 117 acre mixed use development located at the Northeast corner of Middle Road and Interstate 80, Bettendorf, Iowa.

The proposed 384,000 square foot facility consists of 7 modules that can be built in phases. Included is an Olympic size pool with a diving well that will also be used as an indoor water board training facility and two completes sheets of ice used for hockey. The center module main arena will be used for tournament finals in basketball, wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, cheerleading and dance contests. Its seating capacity is 4500 for spectators. The other three modules will be flexible in uses, which include the activities listed above as well as track & field, tennis, badminton and more.

Sports Facility Advisors, a national leader in the analysis and management of sports facilities and athletic tournaments has been contracted to analyze the financial feasibility, analyze economic impact and phasing of the project. Their recommendation will come within 90 days.

Steve Van Dyke, Director, Economic Development, City of Bettendorf, IA says: "We are so proud to be working in partnership with Raufeisen Development concerning  Spencer Creek Technology Park, especially as it relates to the potential for an Indoor Sports Complex.  Creating an environment here in the Quad Cities that encourages a healthy lifestyle along with a well educated, hard working, diverse population base is our top priority."

Raufeisen Development has been working closely with the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau to identify facility needs in the Quad Cities that would attract regional sporting tournaments and events. These events can bring 3500 to 6000+ athletes to the Quad Cities per event with an anticipated 26 events minimum annually. The financial impact to the region could be tens of millions of dollars because of hotel rooms, restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions.

Joe Taylor of The Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau said, "Sports remains a growing segment of the tourist industry.   The Regional Sports Complex will bring many new opportunities to the Quad Cities and the timing is right.  Many communities are seeing a value of sports tourism and investing in sports complexes to an ever growing degree."

Todd Raufeisen says "this facility could be used by local school districts, community and private colleges. Local school districts and local colleges need new facilities but financial pressures make it cost prohibitive. A sports facility of this nature could provide top notch athletic training resources at a fraction of the cost."

Raufeisen states that regional sports tournaments are big business and economic engines. Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Rockford, Illinois are two communities that have announced the same type of feasibility studies. Raufeisen feels that the Quad Cities needs to "get in the game". This location is centralized and strategically located on interstate 80. It has the ability to draw from Chicago to Minneapolis to Omaha to St. Louis.

At this stage, a project of this size, scope and cost is big dream; however, if you look at the potential economic impact to the region it could be just what the Quad Cities needs. If we don't try, we could be traveling to Cedar Rapids or Rockford with our kids and spending our dollars to spur their growth and economy - Let's keep it in the Quad Cities!

League to Expand Membership for 2014-15

GLENDALE, AZ (December 4, 2013) - Central Hockey League Commissioner Steve Ryan announced today that the League will expand by a maximum of two teams for the 2014-15 season.  The CHL Board recently gathered in Las Vegas and after the meetings concluded, expressed their confidence and support to expand membership to 12 teams.

"The Board is enthusiastic about the current momentum and future direction of the League and wishes to expand beyond its current geographical footprint," said Ryan.  "We receive numerous expressions of interest for expansion, both formal and informal, and are now prepared to commence a formal bid process."

"When we came together to purchase the League, we gained control of our future and the ability to grow the legacy of the CHL into the future," said Brad Fain, Owner of the Arizona Sundogs.  "Under the guidance of the Commissioner, we believe this will be the best 'AA' minor league in North America.  Our efforts to build a sustainable and compelling business model will attract highly qualified and passionate owners in the best markets."

This past off-season saw the CHL expand to St. Charles, Missouri (St. Louis area) and Brampton, Ontario (Toronto area).

Last June, team owners acquired the CHL in an asset purchase acquisition from Global Entertainment, a publicly traded company that had owned the League for the previous two decades.

In October, the CHL appointed Steve Ryan as its Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer.  Ryan has an extensive management background in professional sports serving as President of NHL Enterprises from 1981-95.  Additionally, he was President of the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins and Commissioner of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

To facilitate its expansion strategy, the League has retained the Sports Advisory Group (SAG), a division of W.B. Grimes, which is one of the leading sports acquisition firms in North America.  SAG will initiate interaction with potential expansion candidates and advise the League on its plan for growth.

Founded as a professional league in 1963 by the National Hockey League, the Central Hockey League delivers outstanding family entertainment and in-arena excitement and is comprised of 10 teams in eight U.S. states and one Canadian province.  Learn more about the CHL at www.centralhockeyleague.com.

WHITEWATER, WI (12/04/2013)(readMedia)-- The following students were named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team for the 2013-14 season.

  • Maxx Hubbard, a freshman undeclared major from Sterling, Ill.

After finishing third in the national championships last year, the Warhawks have high expectations this season and intend to offer a strong challenge to each opposing team. The team holds preseason-training sessions with new and returning players to increase performance before the regular season begins.

"The team is going to get better as the year goes on," said Tim Fader, the team's head coach. "We have to keep our eyes on the prize, every team has its struggles but we'll power through them. We are going to continue to push expectations and raise the bar, it's what we're known for and it's what we pride ourselves on."

When the wrestlers are not under the spotlights, they give back to the community. They helped build the new Children's Center on campus and they volunteer for the Salvation Army in Janesville every Thanksgiving.

MOLINE, Ill. (December 3, 2013) - Quad City Mallards forward Thomas Frazee has been named 50/50 Central Central Hockey League Rookie of the Month for November, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the CHL.

Frazee scored five goals and collected a dozen assists for 17 points while posting a plus/minus rating of +13 in 11 games in November. Frazee finished November riding a five-game point-scoring streak (4-7-11) and capped off the month by setting a Mallard single game season high for assists (4) and matching a team season high for points (4) in a 9-3 drubbing of the Tulsa Oilers last Saturday. That contest was Frazee's fifth multiple-point game of November. He notched at least two points in each of the Mallards' three games last week and totaled nine points (three goals and six assists) over that stretch.

On the season, Frazee is tied for eighth in the league in plus/minus (+10). Among CHL rookies, he ranks second in assists (12), is tied for third in goals (17) and is tied for sixth in goals (5).

Frazee is the second Mallard in as many days to earn league-wide honors. Jeff Lee was named CHL Player of the Week yesterday.

Prior to joining the Mallards, the 23-year old Frazee scored seven goals and totaled 22 points in 16 games for Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario last season. The 6' 3", 210-pound North Vancouver native first arrived at Lakehead midway through the 2011-12 season, a campaign Frazee began with the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors. Frazee scored once and picked up three assists in 13 games as a Condor before making the move to the university ranks.

Frazee spent five-plus seasons in the major junior Western Hockey League, skating for the Portland Winter Hawks, Medicine Hat Tigers, Moose Jaw Warriors, Regina Pats and Kamloops Blazers between 2006 and 2011. Frazee's final junior campaign was his most productive. He scored 31 goals and notched 72 points in 70 games while splitting the 2010-11 season between Regina and Kamloops. In all, Frazee recorded 72 goals and 188 points in 313 career WHL games.
