MOLINE, Ill. (December 6, 2013) - Jim McKenzie scored twice and the host Quad City Mallards pulled away with three third period goals on the way to a 6-1 win over the Brampton Beast Friday night. The victory stretched the Mallards' winning streak to three straight games and extended their regulation unbeaten streak to seven games (4-0-3).

A McKenzie tip-in opened the scoring and gave the Mallards a lead the would never relinquish at 8:42 of the first period. With just 1:25 left in the first Mike Hellyer (who also had an assist) buried a rebound to double the Mallard advantage.

The Beast cut the gap to 2-1 when Andrew Fournier batted in a power play goal from the doorstep at 10:15 of the second period, but McKenzie would score for the second time and kick off a run of four unanswered Mallard goals by pouncing on a rebound at 11:33 of the second.

The third period Mallard onslaught started when Mike Stinziani (who also picked up an assist) widened the margin to 4-1 from close range at 7:08. At 14:37 Tyler Yaworski scored his first career goal from the left wing circle and just 58 seconds later Darren McMillan capped off the win by rifling in a Gergo Nagy feed- the assist was Nagy's third of the game- from the high slot.

The Mallards' Rivalry Weekend presented by Pub 1848 continues when the Mallards host the Beast tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m and Sunday at 4:05 p.m. The Mallards will join in the spirit of the holiday season by accepting Toys for Tots donations at their games Saturday and Sunday. Fans will receive $3 off a ticket to either of those games for each new toy they donate at the iWireless Center.

MOLINE, Ill. (December 7, 2013) - Jason Pitton scored at 1:20 of overtime to give the Brampton Beast a come from behind 4-3 win over the host Quad City Mallards Saturday night. The Mallards, who earned one point for the sudden death loss, remain unbeaten in regulation in their last eight games (4-0-4).

Pitton capped of the Beast's rally from a 3-1 deficit by sweeping in the rebound after Mallard goaltender Thomas Heemskerk (29 saves) stopped his initial point blank bid.

The game went to the extra period after Matt Caruana steered in Rob Collins's feed from the slot to even the score at three at 8:36 of the third. Calin Wild's power play tip-in had started the Brampton comeback at 6:51 of the second period.

The Mallards had seized the initiative first by scoring three times in the opening period. Vladimir Nikiforov's solo rush gave the Mallards a 1-0 lead at 5:27 of the first. Jeff Lee buried Jim McKenzie's centering pass to stretch the gap to a pair at 12:13. The Beast cut the Mallard lead in half when Dan Milan's shot from the left point was deflected home at the 14:15 mark, but Gergo Nagy scored from the slot just a minute and a half minutes later to reestablish the two goal margin. The Mallards however, would not score again.

The Mallards' Rivalry Weekend presented by Pub 1848 concludes when the Mallards host the Beast for the third time in as many days tomorrow at 4:05 p.m.

MOLINE, Ill. (December 8, 2013) - Gergo Nagy scored the game winning shorthanded goal with just 27 seconds left in the third period as the host Quad City Mallards rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Brampton Beast 3-2 Sunday.  With the victory, the Mallards extended their regulation unbeaten streak to nine games (5-0-4).

Nagy capped of the Mallards' comeback by firing the puck in off Brampton goaltender Grant Rollheiser from the top of the left wing circle. Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel had set the stage for Nagy's late winner by one timing the tying goal from the high slot at 7:49 of third period. The Mallard recovery started when Matt Duffy wristed a power play goal home from the slot to cut the gap to 2-1 at 8:38 of the second period.

The Mallards found themselves down by a pair after the Beast scored twice in two minutes and thirteen seconds early in the second. Tyler Michel gave Brampton a 1-0 lead by scoring from the side of the net at 3:45 of the middle frame. Dan Milan's power play blue line blast doubled the Beast advantage at the 5:48 mark but the Mallards would bounce back in dramatic fashion.

Raufeisen Development announces the funding of a feasibility study regarding the development of a Regional Sports Facility to be located at Spencer Creek, a 117 acre mixed use development located at the Northeast corner of Middle Road and Interstate 80, Bettendorf, Iowa.

The proposed 384,000 square foot facility consists of 7 modules that can be built in phases. Included is an Olympic size pool with a diving well that will also be used as an indoor water board training facility and two completes sheets of ice used for hockey. The center module main arena will be used for tournament finals in basketball, wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, cheerleading and dance contests. Its seating capacity is 4500 for spectators. The other three modules will be flexible in uses, which include the activities listed above as well as track & field, tennis, badminton and more.

Sports Facility Advisors, a national leader in the analysis and management of sports facilities and athletic tournaments has been contracted to analyze the financial feasibility, analyze economic impact and phasing of the project. Their recommendation will come within 90 days.

Steve Van Dyke, Director, Economic Development, City of Bettendorf, IA says: "We are so proud to be working in partnership with Raufeisen Development concerning  Spencer Creek Technology Park, especially as it relates to the potential for an Indoor Sports Complex.  Creating an environment here in the Quad Cities that encourages a healthy lifestyle along with a well educated, hard working, diverse population base is our top priority."

Raufeisen Development has been working closely with the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau to identify facility needs in the Quad Cities that would attract regional sporting tournaments and events. These events can bring 3500 to 6000+ athletes to the Quad Cities per event with an anticipated 26 events minimum annually. The financial impact to the region could be tens of millions of dollars because of hotel rooms, restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions.

Joe Taylor of The Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau said, "Sports remains a growing segment of the tourist industry.   The Regional Sports Complex will bring many new opportunities to the Quad Cities and the timing is right.  Many communities are seeing a value of sports tourism and investing in sports complexes to an ever growing degree."

Todd Raufeisen says "this facility could be used by local school districts, community and private colleges. Local school districts and local colleges need new facilities but financial pressures make it cost prohibitive. A sports facility of this nature could provide top notch athletic training resources at a fraction of the cost."

Raufeisen states that regional sports tournaments are big business and economic engines. Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Rockford, Illinois are two communities that have announced the same type of feasibility studies. Raufeisen feels that the Quad Cities needs to "get in the game". This location is centralized and strategically located on interstate 80. It has the ability to draw from Chicago to Minneapolis to Omaha to St. Louis.

At this stage, a project of this size, scope and cost is big dream; however, if you look at the potential economic impact to the region it could be just what the Quad Cities needs. If we don't try, we could be traveling to Cedar Rapids or Rockford with our kids and spending our dollars to spur their growth and economy - Let's keep it in the Quad Cities!

WHITEWATER, WI (12/04/2013)(readMedia)-- The following students were named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team for the 2013-14 season.

• Maxx Hubbard, a freshman undeclared major from Sterling, Ill.

• Grant Rosenboom, a freshman biology major from Bettendorf, Iowa

After finishing third in the national championships last year, the Warhawks have high expectations this season and intend to offer a strong challenge to each opposing team. The team holds preseason-training sessions with new and returning players to increase performance before the regular season begins.

"The team is going to get better as the year goes on," said Tim Fader, the team's head coach. "We have to keep our eyes on the prize, every team has its struggles but we'll power through them. We are going to continue to push expectations and raise the bar, it's what we're known for and it's what we pride ourselves on."

When the wrestlers are not under the spotlights, they give back to the community. They helped build the new Children's Center on campus and they volunteer for the Salvation Army in Janesville every Thanksgiving.

MOLINE, Ill. (December 3, 2013) - The Quad City Mallards have signed goaltender Nick Niedert, the Mallards announced today.

Niedert, 31, started this season with the Danville Dashers of the Federal Hockey League after playing for five teams in four leagues last season- the Gwinnett Gladiators and Reading Royals of the ECHL, the Bloomington Blaze of the Central Hockey League, the August RiverHawks of the Southern Professional Hockey League and the Danbury Whalers of the FHL. This season with Danville Niedert went 1-6-0 in seven games with a 5.13 goals against average and a .864 save percentage.

Niedert is not a stranger to the Mallards. The 5' 8", 185-pound native of Hudson, Iowa participated in the Mallards 2011 training camp.

Over the course of his nine-year career, Niedert has played for 21 teams in nine different leagues after competing for five teams over three seasons of junior hockey.

The Mallards return to action Friday night at 7:05 p.m on home ice against the Brampton Beast. Friday is another $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X. $1 hot dogs and $1 beers are available at iWireless Center concession stands during each of the Mallards' 11 Friday night home games this season. Friday also kicks off Rivalry Weekend presented by Pub 1848.
