Mavs Slip Past Mallards 2-1

MOLINE, Ill. (February 19, 2014) - Obi Aduba broke a 1-1 tie at 9:30 of the third period and the Missouri Mavericks went on to defeat the host Quad City Mallards 2-1 Wednesday night.  With the loss- their second in four days against the Mavericks- the Mallards (24-13-8, 56 points) remain tied for fourth place with the Allen Americans while the victory extended the Mavericks' (32-13-2, 66 points) winning streak to four games and left Missouri six points clear of second place Denver atop the Central Hockey League.

Aduba snapped what proved be the game winner in under the crossbar from the slot just shy of the midway point of the third.

Adbua's goal gave the Mavericks their second lead of the night.  Missouri was shorthanded when Anders Franzon charged into the goalmouth to open the scoring at 4:05 of the second period.  Jeff Lee's wrist shot from the slot tied the game at one for the Mallards at 11:15 of the second.

The Mallards return to action on the road Friday night against the Tulsa Oilers.  The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Mavericks.  That game is another Winning Wednesday presented by T.G.I. Friday's.  If the Mallards win next Wednesday, each fan in attendance will receive a free ticket to the Mallards' following Wednesday home game courtesy of T.G.I. Friday's.  After the game fans can join the Mallards at T.G.I. Friday's in Moline for a postgame party.

RIVER BANDITS NATIONAL ANTHEM TRYOUTS, TALENT SEARCH WILL BE FEB. 22

Team looking for National Anthem singers, pregame performers for 2014 season
DAVENPORT, Iowa (FEB. 19, 2014) - As the Quad Cities River Bandits prepare for a season packed with family entertainment, the team is again seeking to bring talent from all across the Quad Cities to Modern Woodmen Park. The team will hold tryouts on Saturday, Feb. 22, for individuals and groups, including National Anthem singers, to perform and entertain fans prior to home games during the 2014 season.
National Anthem and other pre-game performance tryouts will take place on the Sky Deck at Modern Woodmen Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. Registration is first come, first served. Talents can range anywhere from singing, dancing, and comedy to miming, juggling or magic.
"The Quad Cities area has a wealth of talented people, and we want them to share their talent with people throughout the region at the Best Minor League Ballpark this season," said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "At Modern Woodmen Park, we put on a unique and fun show every night and entertain our guests from the moment they enter our gates until they walk out the door. Incorporating the talent of the Quad Cities area is a tremendous part of creating that experience."
Everyone participating in the tryouts will perform their talent for a panel of River Bandits staff and local judges. Those talented enough to entertain crowds at River Bandits games this summer will be included in the show during the 2014 season.
"The River Bandits look forward to building a lineup of outstanding local talent to highlight the family entertainment for this season," said General Manager Andrew Chesser. "Modern Woodmen Park is a special gathering place for people across this region, and we are excited to welcome talented local performers and entertainers to be part of the show."

Mallards Go Greene

MOLINE, Ill. (February 19, 2014) - The Quad City Mallards have signed forward Chris Greene, the Mallards announced today.

Greene, 28, joins the Mallards from the Southern Professional Hockey League's Peoria Rivermen, to whom he was traded yesterday by the Fayetteville FireAntz of the SPHL.  Greene scored seven goals and totaled 20 points in 35 games with the FireAntz this season.  The 6' 2", 190-pound Massena, New York native has also played three ECHL games- during which he picked up one assist- with the Evansville Icemen this year. 

Now in his eighth professional season, Greene has spent the bulk of his career in the Central Hockey League, having scored 34 goals and registered exactly 100 assists for 134 points in 345 CHL games with the Arizona Sundogs, Wichita Thunder, Corpus Christi IceRays and Denver Cutthroats.  Last season he scored six times and notched 11 points in 49 games with the Cutthroats after scoring a dozen goals and piling up 26 points in 16 games with the Federal Hockey League's 1,000 Islands Privateers at the start of the campaign.

Greene will return to one of his old stomping grounds when the Mallards this weekend embark upon a three game road trip that will include a visit to Wichita to take on the Thunder Saturday night.  Greene spent all or part of four seasons with the Thunder between 2007 and 2012 and reached the President's Cup finals with Wichita in the spring of 2012.  

  

In all, Greene has skated in 464 games for ten clubs in four leagues and produced 69 goals and 216 points since turning pro with the ECHL's Reading Royals in the spring of 2006.  Greene played two seasons in the major junior Ontario Hockey League with the Erie Otters before stepping into the pro ranks.

Mallards Place Hellyer and Frazee on IR; Lee Named Alternate Captain

MOLINE, Ill. (February 18, 2014) - The Quad City Mallards have placed forward Mike Hellyer on 14-day injured reserve and forward Thomas Frazee on seven-day injured reserve while forward Jeff Lee has been named an alternate team captain, the Mallards announced today.

Hellyer has been sidelined by a lower body injury after briefly returning to the lineup for the Mallards' loss Sunday to the Mavericks in Missouri.  Hellyer missed two games before returning to the ice Sunday.  The 27-year old native of Brandon, Manitoba, has scored ten goals and totaled 25 points in 42 games this season after last year being named Central Hockey League Rookie of the Year.

Frazee has been forced out of the line-up by an upper body injury.  The 23-year old North Vancouver product missed Sunday's game after playing in each of the Mallards' first 43 tilts.  Among CHL rookies Frazee is tied for third in goals (13) and points (31) and tied for fourth in assists (18).  Frazee has been moved to IR retroactive to Saturday while Hellyer's move is retroactive to Sunday.

Lee joins captain Darren McMillan and fellow alternate captain Mike Stinziani in wearing a letter for the Mallards.  Jim McKenzie also donned the "A" before being called up to the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild last month.  Lee has enjoyed a strong first season with the Mallards and of late has been the team's hottest forward.  The 25-year old Calgary native leads the Mallards in goals (16) and is tied for the team lead in points (38).  Lee, who last year spent what was his rookie campaign with the Rapid City Rush, has posted a plus/minus rating of +10 while playing in each of the Mallards first 44 games this season.  Lee is in the midst of a six game point scoring streak (3-7-10) and has piled up 17 points (five goals and 12 assists) in his last 12 games.

Mallards Stop Rush 4-2

MOLINE, Ill. (February 14, 2014) - Gergo Nagy scored twice and Thomas Heemskerk made 33 saves as the host Quad City Mallards defeated the Rapid City Rush 4-2 Friday night.  The win was the Mallards' (23-11-8, 54 points) third in a row while the defeat was the Rush's (28-18-0, 56 points) fifth in succession.

After Nagy twice gave the Mallards the lead in the first period it was Jeff Lee who put Quad City on top for good at 11:27 of the second period.  The Mallards were on the power play when Lee buried a rebound to snap a 2-2 deadlock.

With just 2:59 left in the third period, Justin Fox clinched the win by sweeping the fourth Mallard goal home between Rapid City goaltender Tim Boron's pads from the right wing circle.

Fox finally put the game beyond Rapid City's reach after the Rush had twice come from behind to even the score earlier in the evening.  Just 46 seconds after Nagy tipped in the opening goal at 4:29 of the first period Rapid City's Bob Preece tied the game from the left point.  Nagy put the Mallards back on top at 16:44 of the first with a blast from the top of the left wing circle.  Jared Brown would knot the game again at 3:37 of the second period when his drive from the top of the right circle was deflected past Heemskerk but the Rush would not beat the Mallard goaltender again.

The Mallards host the Rush again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.  The first 1,000 fans through the doors for tomorrow evening's game will receive free Terry Ruskowski bobblehead dolls courtesy of KWQC TV6.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (FEB. 13, 2014) - With baseball players beginning to hit the fields for Spring Training, the defending Midwest League Champion Quad Cities River Bandits, Main Street Amusements and Professional Sports Catering, the food and beverage provider at Modern Woodmen Park, are preparing for the season by seeking outgoing, hard-working, fun-loving, friendly people to assist fans and be a part of the team that will help make another memorable season for guests at the ballpark.

MOLINE, Ill. (February 12, 2014) - The First 1,000 fans through the doors for this Saturday night's 7:05 p.m. game between the Quad City Mallards and Rapid City Rush at the iWireless Center will receive free Terry Ruskowski bobblehead dolls.

The bobbleheads in the image of Ruskwoski- the Mallards' coach and general manager- will be given away at what will be the second of the Mallards' two home games in as many nights against Rapid City this weekend.

The Mallards will open the weekend Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. with the return of $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X.  $1 hot dogs and $1 beers are available at iWireless Center concession stands during each of the Mallards' 11 Friday night home games this season.  First intermission entertainment will, courtesy of 97X, follow the hot dog-themed spirit of the evening.

The Mallards have partnered with Metro, which provides earlier service on the Route 59 between Augustana College and downtown Moline during Friday home games this season.  The Route 59 will make one trip from campus to downtown Moline prior to the game (arriving at 5th Avenue and 15th Street at 6:30 p.m.) and will resume service from downtown to campus every 30 minutes from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.  Regular Metro fares are just $1 one-way or $2 round-trip.  As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.  Visit www.gogreenmetro.com or www.facebook.com/53and59 for more information.

The Student Hunger Drive helps feed area hungry while instilling a sense of volunteerism and community in area youth.  Community leaders partner with local food banks and area schools to host a 6 week challenge every year.  Currently, Student Hunger Drives are taking place in the Quad Cities, Charlotte, North Carolina and Northern Indiana.  Students are the power behind this mission creating fun and innovative ways to raise money, collect food and feed the hungry.

 

Saturday night's Ruskowski bobblehead giveaway honors the third winningest coach in Central Hockey League history.  Now in his second season behind the Mallard bench, Ruskowski is not only a highly successful coach but was also a fine player.  Ruskowski skated in 999 career games for six teams including the Chicago Blackhawks and is the only man in hockey history to have captained four different clubs.

Stacy Clark named WIAC Player of the Week

MADISON, Wis. - Junior Stacy Clark was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the league office.

Clark averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds in the Pioneers' two games last week. The Riverdale, Iowa native, shot 10-of-14 for 25 points in the Pioneers setback to UW-Oshkosh on Feb. 5. She also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded two steals and one assist. Clark recorded her fifth double-double of the season in the Pioneers 74-67 win over UW-La Crosse. She tallied 23 points and 15 rebounds against the Eagles, while adding one blocked shot.
