QUACK TRACKS
Shootout Out West
The Mallards earned two points for a pair of 3-2 shootout losses last weekend in Arizona. The Mallards came from behind to tie both of those games in the third period. Saturday night's game ended controversially as the Mallards argued that Gabriel Levesque scored what should have been the tying goal in the final round of the shootout but it was ruled that Sundogs goaltender Chris Rawlings gloved Levesque's bid just before it crossed the goal line.

Trifecta
Each of the Mallards' last three games has gone to the shootout. The Mallards have gone 1-2 during that stretch and are 1-3 in shootouts on the season. This marks the first time the Mallards have reached the shootout in three consecutive games since going to successive shootouts on January 8, January 10 and January 15, 2010 while in the International Hockey League.

Upswing
The Mallards have suffered just one regulation loss in their last six games, a stretch during which they have gone 3-1-2.

Goals, Goals, Goals
The Mallards have scored a total of six regulation goals in their last four games after scoring at least four goals in six of their first seven games. The Mallards, who until last weekend led the league in goals per game, now rank second in that category (3.7), just behind Rapid City (3.8).

Stingy
The Mallards have allowed just two (non-shootout) goals in each of their last three games and have given up three goals or fewer in each of their last six games.

Catch-Up
The Mallards have played fewer games (11) than any other CHL club. The league-leading Rush have played the next fewest (13) while the Tulsa Oilers, who the Mallards on Saturday night will meet for the first time this season, have already played a league high 18 games.

Rookie Roll
Rookie Thomas Frazee has recorded eight points (two goals and six assists) in his last eight games.

Between The Pipes
Thomas Heemskerk remains unbeaten in regulation (2-0-1) after making 29 saves in last Friday's shootout setback. That game was Heemskerk's first with the Mallards since returning from a brief stint with the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild. Ty Rimmer made 31 saves one night later while making his fourth start in the Mallards' last five games, a stretch during which he has gone 2-1-1 with a 2.40 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.

Leaders
Mike Monfredo is tied for sixth among CHL defensemen in assists (7)...Thomas Frazee ranks fifth among rookies in assists and is tied for seventh seventh among rookies in points (8).

Milestones
Gabriel Levesque played his one hundredth career game last Friday at Arizona...Terry Ruskowski has won 414 games as a CHL coach and is one win away from tying Chris Stewart for third place all-time among CHL coaches in victories (415)...Matt Duffy has notched 99 career points...Darren McMillan has collected 95 career CHL assists

Special Teams
The Mallards rank sixth in the CHL in power play efficiency (16.4 percent) and lead the league in power plays per game (6.1). The Mallards, who have successfully completed 14 consecutive penalty kills, rank third in penalty killing (84.2 percent). The Mallards last Friday gave up a shorthanded goal for the second time this season; last Saturday Thomas Frazee scored the Mallards' first shorthanded goal of the year.

Head to Head
This Wednesday's game is the first of ten meetings this season between the Mallards and Mavericks. The Mallards last season went 7-6-0 overall and 4-3-0 on the road against Missouri. All-time the Mallards have gone 14-12-2 against the Mavericks and have posted a 9-6-0 record in Independence...The Mallards have gone 2-0-1 against the expansion Chill this season and have won each of the clubs' prior two meetings at the iWireless Center. Mikes Hellyer (four goals and three assists) and Stinziani (three goals and four assists) piled up seven points apiece over the first three games between the two clubs...The Mallards and Oilers will open their four-game season series this Saturday. The Mallards last season went 4-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 at home against Tulsa. All-time the Mallards have gone 6-5-0 against the Oilers overall and 4-3-0 at home.

The Teddy Bear Toss will make its annual return when the Mallards do battle with the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night. Those teddy bears will then be donated to children in need in the Quad Cities area just in time for the holidays.

DES MOINES, IA (11/25/2013)(readMedia)-- "Happiness Is" the 2013 Iowa State Fair's final attendance tally of 1,045,048 visitors during its August 8-18 run. Fairgoers packaged meals for the food insecure, indulged in new Fair foods and enjoyed all the traditions of the Iowa State Fair during an unprecedented 11 days of beautiful weather.

More than 1500 Fairgoers volunteered in the Fair's first ever one-day meal-packaging event in partnership with Meals from the Heartland. Fairgoers packaged 255,096 meals to help alleviate life-threatening hunger around the world. Combined with the Fair's Food Drive discount day, a total of 46,453 pounds of food was donated to help the food insecure locally and globally. The event was part of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions' "Dream Big" food drive hosted by fairs throughout the world.

The first annual New Fair Food Contest and eighteen new foods debuted at this year's Fair. Introductory foods ranged from new flavors of funnel cakes and corndogs to the "Graham Champion" Fair Square and deep-fried brownie on-a-stick. Fairgoers voted for the Shrimp Corndog as the contest's inaugural champion of the new foods.

This year, the Fair hosted 6,650 livestock exhibitors with 21,787 animals throughout the 11 days, making it one of the world's largest livestock shows. Other highlights included two new equine events, the Supreme Six-Horse Hitch contest and cowboy mounted shooting demonstrations, as well as seven record-breakers in the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement's Sale of Champions.

Fairgoers flocked to the Agriculture Building to get a glimpse of the Butter Cow, a 102-year Fair tradition. This year's companion sculptures commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Highway Bridge in Tama and the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

Other highlights included more than 22,800 exhibitors with 63,550 entries, record attendance of 32,878 at the Little Hands on the Farm interactive farm exhibit, a new Fair recycling record of 35 tons and thousands of Fairgoers attending concerts at the newly-relocated Budweiser Stage.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (NOV. 19, 2013) - The Quad Cities River Bandits have made a pair of offseason acquisitions, as they announced on Tuesday their two new assistant general managers, whom the Midwest League club will have oversee the baseball operations of the franchise and the year-round special events at Modern Woodmen Park.

The front office team welcomes Travis Painter as the Assistant General Manager of Baseball Operations and Taylor Satterly as the Assistant General Manager of Special Events.

"We are very pleased to add two talented and experienced new members to our front office team," said River Bandits co-owner Dave Heller. "Travis brings diverse experiences in Minor League Baseball and is widely regarded as a rising star within the industry, and Taylor is the kind of outstanding home-grown talent we pride ourselves on hiring. She has proven skills, great experience and the kind of familiarity with the Quad Cities region that only a local could have. Together, they are going to take baseball and special events at Modern Woodmen Park to a whole new level!"

Painter joins the River Bandits from the Pensacola (Fla.) Blue Wahoos, Double-A affiliate of the Cincinatti Reds in the Southern League. A native of Luray, Va., and graduate of James Madison (Harrisonburg, Va.) University, Painter previously served as assistant general manager for the Potomac (Va.) Nationals, the advanced Class-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals in the Carolina League. He also helped start the Pensacola franchise and open its new stadium in his two-year stint with the Blue Wahoos. Painter will assist with the day-to-day operations of the club and help oversee many of the River Bandits front office departments.

"I am excited to be joining the River Bandits, and helping to take this already extraordinary team to the next level," Painter said. "It's been a great transition to the Quad Cities, and I look forward to jumping into my new role, and meeting lots of new people."

Satterly comes to the River Bandits after eight years at the Stoney Creek Inn of Moline, Ill., most recently as the Assistant General Manager. A native of Henry County, Ill., Satterly graduated from Western Illinois University in the Quad Cities. She will lead the special events department at Modern Woodmen Park and will oversee all sales, planning, setup and cleanup of special events - including weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate meetings, luncheons, holiday parties, fundraisers and many other year-round events.

"I would like to thank Dave Heller and Bob Herrfeldt for this opportunity to join such a great organization so committed to outstanding customer service," Satterly said. "I am very excited to use my years of experience in the hospitality industry to help make Modern Woodmen Park the first choice for weddings, parties and all kinds of events here in the Quad Cities."

The Mallards last weekend split a pair of games with the Cutthroats in Denver. The Mallards rebounded from a 3-0 shutout loss last Friday to defeat Denver 3-2 in a shootout one night later.

On the Road
Last Saturday's win was the Mallards' first road victory of the season. The Mallards have started a stretch of five straight road games 1-1-0.

Fish Foursome
The Mallards went 3-1-0 over a stretch of four consecutive games against Denver that concluded last weekend.

Blanked
The Mallards last Friday were shut out for the first time since they were blanked 4-0 in Allen by Aaron Dell and the Americans on December 31, 2013.

Goals, Goals, Goals
The Mallards scored a total of two regulation goals last weekend after scoring at least four goals in six of their first seven games. The Mallards remain the league leaders in goals (4.1) per game despite the fact that no Mallard ranks in the top 15 in the CHL in goal scoring.

Shootout
The Mallards are now 1-1 in shootouts this season. The Mallards outscored Denver 2-1 in the shootout last Saturday after dropping their first shootout October 27 in St. Charles. Mike Hellyer led off and scored in both of those shootouts. Gabriel Levesque became the only other Mallard to score in a shootout this season when he provided the game winner last Saturday.

Six Shooter
Vladimir Nikiforov's team season best six-game point-scoring streak (3-7-10) was halted last Friday.

Between The Pipes
Ty Rimmer has made three straight starts in goal and has posted a .919 save percentage while giving up three goals or fewer in each of those three outings. The rookie last Saturday earned his first career shootout win.

Nicholas Rioux (+8) is tied for fifth in the CHL in plus/minus rating...Jim McKenzie is tied for ninth in penalty minutes (34).

Head to Head
The Mallards this weekend meet the Sundogs for the first time this season. The Mallards last season went 2-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 on the road against Arizona. All-time the Mallards have gone 5-2-2 against the Sundogs and have posted a 2-1-1 record in Prescott Valley. After this weekend the Mallards will not see Arizona again until the Sundogs visit the iWireless Center three times in eight days in February to wrap up the season series.

Ins and Outs
Goaltender Thomas Heemskerk was signed to a professional tryout agreement by the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild last Friday and served as the Wild's back-up in a pair of games last weekend before returning to the Mallards yesterday...The Mallards signed goaltender Casey Sherwood last Friday and waived him upon Heemskerk's return. Sherwood did not see any game action in Denver.
