Jodi K's Boutique Offers Customers Discounts To Share Sweaters

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (12/15/2011)(readMedia)-- What makes the harsh midwest winter bearable? A cozy warm sweater. Jodi Cobb, manager of Jodi K's Boutique, is happy to spread the warmth this season.

Jodi K's, the premier women's fashion boutique in the Cedar Rapids area, is located beside Zeppelin's restaurant on Edgewood Road.

Sweater Swap Days

From Thursday, December 17 through Saturday, December 19, Jodi K's is collecting clean, gently used sweaters for the needy around Cedar Rapids. The public is invited to bring a few of their past favorites into the store during Sweater Swap Days to benefit a local women's organization.

Customers who swap three sweaters in good condition receive 30% off an item in the store. Two swetaers will earn a customer 25% off, and one sweater will earn them 20%.

"We think this is a easy way for a woman to update her wardrobe or check a few people off her holiday shopping list," commented Ms. Cobb, "In return, she can help out someone less forutnate by providing some warm sweaters to ward off the cold. Why let perfectly good sweaters sit in a closet just because your taste or size changed? Someone else could really benefit from the clothing. Sweater Swap Days means something new for everyone!"

Details of the event are available on Jodi K's new web site launched last week, http://jodiks.com. There's also still time for shoppers to complete their Christmas Wish Lists for merchandise from the store, including boots, coats, scarves, and of course, sweaters. Jodi K's will coordinate with a customer's special someone, spouse, or husband to ensure the perfect gift of style and size for everyone. "Why risk a gift? Get the women in your life - mom, aunt, sister or beau - exactly what she wants for Christmas," said Ms. Cobb.

On February at 4pm, the film, "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days" will be shown at the Figge Art Museum in the John Deere Auditorium. The Figge is located at 225 W. 2nd St. Davenport, IA. Admission for the film is $5 or free for students.

2005 Academy Award Nominee for Best Foreign language Film, Sophie Scholl: The Final Days is the true story of Germanys most famous anti-Nazi heroine brought to thrilling dramatic life. Sophie Scholl stars Julia Jentsch in a luminous performance as the fearless activist of the underground student resistance group, The White Rose.

Using historical records of her incarceration, the film re-creates the last six days of Sophie Scholl's life: a journey from arrest to interrogation, trial and sentence in 1943 Munich. Unwavering in her convictions and loyalty to her comrades, her cross-examination by the Gestapo quickly escalates into a searing test of wills as Scholl delivers a passionate call to freedom and personal responsibility that is both haunting and timeless. -IMDB review

This film is shown in conjunction with the exhibit The White Rose at the German American Heritage Center located at 712 W. 2nd St. Davenport, IA. Sponsored by GAHC, The Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities and the German Consulate of Chicago.

Bettendorf, IA - Twelve fifth grade elementary students from the Bettendorf Elementary Schools have collected 300 coats for the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency Coats for Kids Program as part of a community service project developed through the Tomorrow's Leaders program.  A representative from the AEA will be on hand accepting the coats tomorrow, December 9, at 7:30am at the Bettendorf Happy Joe's.

Tomorrow's Leaders is comprised of 12 fifth grade students, one boy and one girl, representing each of the elementary schools in Bettendorf.  The students are chosen by their teachers and principals and are leaders among their class.  Once a month, the group meets for breakfast at the Bettendorf Happy Joe's, where they discuss leadership skills and social and society issues pertaining to school and the community. All of the students volunteer for the Special Needs Winter Holiday Party at the iWireless Center in December. Additionally, the students select a service project.  This year they chose to collect coats for the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency Coats for Kids Program.

"These students are the future leaders of tomorrow.  This program enables them to see that they have a voice and that being a leader is all about taking the initiative to mobilize themselves and others toward necessary action," says program advisor Happy Joe Whitty.

Milan, IL - Milan Happy Joe's team members will host a special needs party for children from 10am to noon on December 13th at Horace Mann Early Learning Center.  Santa will be on hand to spread holiday cheer and delight to special needs children throughout the Milan area.  Approximately 100 children from Horace Mann Early Learning Center are expected to attend the event.  The first special needs party began in 1972 when Happy Joe Whitty opened his first store in the Village of East Davenport.  Since that first event 39 years ago, nearly 155,000 special needs children have attended parties throughout the 59 store chain.

"We look forward to December and hosting the special needs party each and every year," says Dave Vanderginst, Milan Happy Joe's Franchise Owner.  "The party is an opportunity for us to reflect and be thankful for the past year while continuing a long standing tradition our founder, Happy Joe Whitty, started one holiday night in 1972."
Before opening his first Happy Joe's Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor in the Village of East Davenport, founder Joe Whitty was nearly fired from another pizza chain for sponsoring a party for a group of special needs children without first checking with his boss.  In 1972, on the eve his first restaurant's opening night , he invited a local priest to bless his business and promised that if he could make enough money to feed his family, he would give something back to the community.  After just a few weeks in business, people were waiting out the door.  True to his word, Joe shut down the restaurant one day a year to have a party for those less fortunate, and required his franchisees to do the same.  Now, 39 years later, nearly 155,000 special needs children have benefited from the parties held throughout the chain over the holiday season.
All media are welcome to join our team members at Horace Mann Early Learning Center located at 3530 38th Ave, Rock Island, IL 61201.

During the holidays, it's harder to get the women of Winnie's Place adopted than the children so the Quad City Mallards is having a GIFT DRIVE at their game, Friday December 23rd.

Several have expressed interest in going as a Churches United/Winnie's Place group and take advantage of the group rate.  If you are, let me know!

What a GREAT way to have some fun AND help the women of Winnie's at the same time!   They REALLY need pajama pants for the mom's but any gift item or gift certificate will help!

PLEASE share this with your e-mail lists and help spread the word.   The Mallards have been awesome to support us - a recent silent auction and food drive resulted in over a ton of food in cash and food items for our hunger ministry.    Now this help with Winnie's!

You can drop off the gift item at the Mallards office OR at Winnie's Wishes (902 E. River Drive, Davenport) to get your $5 off voucher.
