The Scott County Family Y Offers Seasonal Fun for Everyone

DAVENPORT, Iowa - October 21, 2009 - It's that time of year - time for spooky, silly fun.  That's exactly what will take place at the North Family YMCA on Friday, October 23, from 5:30-8:00p.m., at "Halloween at the YMCA."

This year's event is a family spooktacular and will give all the ghosts and ghouls a night of Halloween fun with unlimited visits to the YMCA Haunted House, holiday crafts and games and much more.  Families are invited to dress-up and participate in the Halloween costume contest.  Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed.

"Halloween at the YMCA" is a safe and imaginative experience for kids of all ages," said Angela Rodriguez-Finch, Membership Director, North Family YMCA.  "All of us here at the YMCA believe it's a time to be a creative with costumes, decorations and games while making this night a fun without the worry that our children are in harms way."

"Halloween at the YMCA" is from 5:30-8:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, at the North Family YMCA, 624 West 53rd Street, Davenport. Davenport, IA, October 12, 2009: Discover the truth and dispel the myths about bats just in time for Halloween!  Find out why these creatures are so important to our environment and how we can protect them.  Vera Blevins, local wildlife rehabilitator, brings her live bats and discusses valuable information regarding the animals.  On this spooky hike, you will learn about Halloween myths and legends.  Crafty bat ideas will be inside after presentation for a fee of $1.  Registration is not necessary.

This year's National Down Syndrome Society's BUDDY WALK has been relocated to the east end of the Ben Butterworth Parkway in Moline, along the riverfront at the boat launch.  The BUDDY WALK is still scheduled for October 10th and will begin at 10:30 a.m.  There will be a shuttle available from the former CASE IH Parking Lot.  For more information, plese contact the Upside of Down Syndrome Family Group at 563-271-3524.

Davenport, IA, October 8, 2009:  Celebrate the beautiful leaves and harvest season with a day filled with old fashion fun.  The City of Davenport Parks & Recreation Department will be host to you and your family on this day filled with physical activity structures, petting zoo, Sancho-the Prize Winning Steer (participants are able to purchase a photo with Sancho), games, pumpkin decorating, crafts, and so much more.  Pumpkins will be available to decorate and concessions will be available for purchase.  There will be something for everyone.

  • Note: In effort to combat childhood obesity, the Davenport Parks and Recreation Department has placed an emphasis on offering only healthy and educational prizes for participants.
