An Act Concerning: Public Health

Law distinguishes Alzheimer's disease as the most prevalent type of dementia. Will improve treatment options by mandating that starting Jan. 1, 2014, the Illinois Department of Public Health, along with members of the General Assembly and stakeholders shall hold public hearings every three years with the goal of developing a state strategy and response for the Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Plan.

Action: Signed

Effective Date: Jan. 1

Teens: Feed your Mind - READ!

This week, teens can earn Summer Reading points and have fun attending three tasty events:

Teen Iron Chef: Show off your mad chef skills and earn a gift card! 4:00 to 5:30 pm, Monday, July 9, Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street.

Teen Game Night: 5:30 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 12, Main Library Community Room. Play Wii and board games. Snackage, too.

Food Craft Day; 3:00 to 4:30 pm, Friday, July 13, Rock Island 30/31 Branch, 3059 30th Street. Make a whole bunch of food-themed crafts!

Teens ages 12 to 18 turn in a reading card when they complete at least six hours of reading, or a program card for attending an event.

Keep reading! Each card stands for 6 hours of reading, and you can turn in as many cards as you can finish. You earn a program card every time you attend a teen program. The more you read, the more chances you have to win. You can enter multiple times, and earn more chances to win books, DVDs, gift cards, or the grand prize, an Amazon Kindle® eReader!

A Second Helping: The Church Basement Ladies Sequel opens July 26 at The Old Creamery Theatre

Amana - They're servin it up again in the church basement kitchen of East Cornucopia Lutheran Church of the Prairie. A Second Helping: The Church Basement Ladies Sequel opens July 26 on the Main Stage in Amana.

The year is 1969 and among the Vietnam War protests, the world, Pastor Gunderson and the ladies, are a changin.' Inspired by the books of Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson, including the best seller Growing Up Lutheran, this all-new production will be sure to keep you laughing at the over-the-top antics and heartwarming humor that goes on in this rural Minnesota church basement kitchen.

The cast consists of Kamille Zbanek of Ely, Kay Francis of Naples, Florida, Deborah Kennedy of West Amana, Nikki Savitt of Arlington Heights, Ill and Sean McCall of Marengo. Written by Greta Gorsch with music and lyrics by Dennis Curley and Drew Jansen, A Second Helping is directed by Curt Wollen under the musical direction of Becky Barrett-Jones. The show is rated Theatre G and runs through Sept. 2.

Shows are on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $27 for adults and $17.50 for students. Student rush tickets are available for $12. No reservations are accepted for rush tickets. Come to the box office no earlier than 30 minutes before a performance for this special rate. A student ID is required for rush tickets.

The Old Creamery Theatre Company is a not-for-profit professional theatre founded in 1971 in Garrison, Iowa. The company is celebrating 41 years of bringing live, professional theatre to the people of Iowa and the Midwest.

Nominations Open for 2012 Quad City Caring Awards

BETTENDORF, Iowa - Nonprofit organizations in Scott and Rock Island counties are invited to nominate their top volunteers for the 2012 Quad City Caring Awards. The awards are presented each year by the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend to honor a select group of volunteers who have demonstrated their commitment to the betterment of our community.

This year, five volunteers will be honored. One of the awards will be given to a young volunteer under the age of 21.

"Nonprofits depend on volunteers," said Susan Skora, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. "These generous people give the community something very valuable - their time and hard work. Recognizing them for this gift is one of the happiest events of the year."

Nonprofits are encouraged to submit their nominations. A citizen committee of community leaders will select the winners. Each nonprofit that nominates an award recipient will receive a $1,000 grant from the Community Foundation in honor of the winner.

Quad City Caring Award winners will be recognized at the Community Foundation's Annual Celebration on September 25, 2012. The event will be held at the Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf.

Nomination forms are available at the Community Foundation office, or on the website www.cfgrb.org. Completed forms must be submitted by Aug. 10 to the Community Foundation, 852 Middle Road, Suite 100, Bettendorf, IA.

Final Week of 2012 Riverside Theatre in the Park

Iowa City, IA - Riverside Theatre in the Park is entering the final week of its 2012 summer season with 5 more performances of Shakespeare's As You Like It and The Merchant of Venice. The 17-performance summer season opened on June 15 and will close July 8.

As You Like It by William Shakespeare and directed by Theodore Swetz will be performed this Thursday, July 5 at 8 p.m., Friday, July 6 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 8 at 7 p.m. In one of Shakespeare's greatest comedies our heroine and hero flee an oppressive court for the beautiful and healing Forest of Arden.

The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare and directed by Kristin Horton will be performed tonight, Tuesday, July 3 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 7 at 8 p.m. One of Shakespeare's less frequently produced plays, The Merchant of Venice introduces characters rich in complexity, humor and, most of all, flaws.

Post-performance Talkbacks will be held after both performances of The Merchant of Venice.

Green Show Performance of As You Like It at Iowa City Farmers Market, Saturday, June 30

Iowa City, Iowa - Riverside Theatre in the Park will present a free Green Show of As You Like It on Saturday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at the Iowa City Farmers Market in Chauncey Swan Park.

At Riverside Theatre in the Park, the Green Shows are performed one hour before curtain. These 20-minute story theatre versions of the evening's play allow the audience to brush up on the plot in advance of the evening performance.

The nightly Green Show?and this preview performance?showcases the work of the Riverside Theatre in the Park Apprentice Company.

Green Shows are filled with humor and are family friendly.

Riverside Theatre in the Park runs now through July 8, featuring The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, directed by Kristin Horton and As You Like It by William Shakespeare, directed by Theodore Swetz.

Muscatine Man Sentenced on Federal Escape Charge

DAVENPORT, IA - On June 27, 2012, Quinten Eugene Truitt, age 29, of Muscatine, Iowa, was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment for one count of escape from federal custody, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Judge Robert W. Pratt also ordered Truitt to serve a term of supervised release of 3 years following his incarceration and pay an assessment of $100 to Crime Victims Fund.

From April 20, 2011, through April 26, 2011, Truitt was on escape status from federal custody at the Davenport Work Release Center, Davenport, Iowa. On June 13, 2007, Truitt was sentenced in the Southern District of Iowa to 46 months imprisonment on Counts 1, 2 and 3 of an Indictment which charged violations of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 871 and 879, that is, Threats Against the President (Count 1) and Threats
Against Family Members of the President (Counts 2 and 3).

On February 3, 2011, the Bureau of Prisons transferred Truitt to the Davenport, Iowa, Work Release/Residential Re-Entry Center (RRC) to serve the remainder of his sentence. His projected release date was May 23, 2011.

On April 20, 2011, Truitt checked out of RRC to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, approximately 8 blocks from RRC. Truit was scheduled to return at 8:30 P.M., but at 8:35 P.M. Truitt's GPS ankle bracelet signaled that it had been tampered with. The last signal received was in the area of Dubuque Street and Highway 1 in Iowa City, Iowa, which was well outside the geographic limits of Truitt's approved leave.

On April 25, 2011, the Muscatine, Iowa, Police Department learned that Truitt and another person were staying at a residence in Muscatine, Iowa. Upon entry into the residence, Muscatine Police immediately located and apprehended Truitt just after midnight on April 26, This investigation was conducted by the United States Marshals Service, the Muscatine, Iowa, Police Department, and the Iowa City, Iowa, Police Department. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
