Mount Carroll?Timber Lake Playhouse, the professional summer theatre of Northwest Illinois, will open its 54th consecutive season on June 4th. Tickets for all six mainstage productions will go on sale Monday, May 18th at 10:00 a.m. online and at the theatre box office. Subscriptions to see all six shows at a discounted rate are already available.

The season to "Dream Bigger" begins with the Tony Award winning musical Hairspray. It's 1962 Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire?to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, using her newfound power to dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do. A newcomer to TLP, Amelia Jo Parish, will star as Tracy Turnblad and TLP favorite Grant Brown returns to play Corny Collins.

Chicago theatre recognizes its best work each season with the Joseph Jefferson (Jeff) Awards. TLP brings four Jeff Award winning guest artists to Mount Carroll this summer. They include Hairspray director Lili-Anne Brown and actor Tommy Bullington, who will star as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray, a role that won Harvey Fierstein a Tony Award. Jeff Award winner Brigitte Ditmars will play the Female Authority Figure in Hairspray and star in The Big Meal, which is directed by Chuck Smith, another Jeff Award winning director in his 14th consecutive summer at the playhouse

The Big Meal, which premiered in Chicago in 2011, tells the extraordinary story of an ordinary family. Somewhere in America, in a typical suburban restaurant on a typical night, Sam and Nicole first meet. Sparks fly. And so begins an expansive, heart-warming tale that traverses five generations of a modern American family. Judy Knudtson returns to TLP for The Big Meal, along with newcomers Cullen Rogers, Paige ManWaring, Matt W. Miles and Brian Pauley. Pulitzer Prize Winner Annie Baker recently called The Big Meal, "The greatest play ever written."

In July, for the first time ever, TLP will present the Broadway musical Peter Pan starring scene stealer Cody Jolly as Captain Hook and Rose Upton in the title role made famous by Mary Martin. The playhouse will offer additional matinees of the productions to accommodate families. Zachary L. Gray, who began his career at TLP playing Baby John in West Side Story returns to direct and choreograph the show.

The fourth show (and second play) of the season is Greater Tuna, a comedy about the third smallest town in Texas, where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. Matt Webb and Cody Jolly, who have become the playhouse's greatest comedic duo in shows like Young Frankenstein, Rumors and The Music Man, reunite to play all of the citizens of Tuna, Texas -- men, women, children and animals. Chicago director and choreographer, Stephen Schellhardt, stages the madness.

Opening July 30th, Artistic Director James Beaudry stages the stunning new musical adaptation of Big Fish. Based on the novel and the acclaimed Tim Burton film from 2003, Big Fish stars long time TLP favorite Karl Hamilton and Elizabeth Haley in the roles of Edward and Sandra Bloom, made famous on film by Albert Finney and Jessica Lange. The two are also married in real life. Samuel Leicht of Appleton, Wisconsin plays their son Will Bloom, and Daxtun Heier of Sterling, Illinois play's young Will.

Big Fish tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman whose incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him - most of all, his adoring wife Sandra. But their son Will is determined to find the truth behind his father's fantastic tales. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stage magic as Edward's stories come to life, it is an extraordinary new musical that reminds us how great stories can give us an experience richer, funnier and bigger than life itself.

The final production of the 2015 season will be Roger Miller's Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, directed by longtime TLP favorite Courtney Crouse. Propelled by an award winning country, bluegrass and gospel score, this journey down the Mississippi is a celebration of pure Americana. Twain's timeless classic is performed by actor-musicians with Grant Brown starring as Huck and John Chase returning as Pap Finn. Charles Benson, of Lansing, Michigan will play Jim.

TLP's 54th professional resident company includes 72 performers, musicians and designers chose from over 1,200 people who auditioned in six cities around the country. The programs at Timber Lake Playhouse are partially sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, as state agency, through federal funds from the National Endowment for the Arts. The programs are also subsidized by hundreds of private, foundation and corporate donors from the region.

CATCH HER WHILE YOU CAN!
DAVENPORT, IA- On May 1, 2015, Ian Dishon David Isabel, age 30, formerly of

Davenport, Iowa, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge James E. Gritzner to

360 months in prison, after pleading guilty to production of child pornography, announced

United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Isabel was also ordered to serve 10 years of

supervised release following his term of imprisonment, and to pay $100 towards the Crime

Victims Fund. Isabel will also be required to register as a sex offender.

On April 2, 2014, a custodian at Hayes Elementary School discovered what was later

determined to be a hidden camera in the girls' bathroom. The school principal and the

Davenport Police Department were notified of the discovery. Isabel was the coordinator of the

Stepping Stones after-school program at Hayes Elementary, and was working during the time the

custodian found the hidden device. A search by a Davenport police detective found additional

hidden devices in the same bathroom. Isabel became aware of the investigation, and fled from

the school, claiming illness. The United States Secret Service, Cyber-Crimes Unit, also became

involved in the investigation. Items were seized from a subsequent search of Isabel's residence

and a storage unit. Isabel fled and was later arrested on April 11th at a state park in Adams

County, Illinois. Additional items were seized from Isabel's vehicle. A subsequent forensic

examination of the computer equipment and storage devices seized found over 100 separate

images of children from Hayes Elementary captured during a time period of December 29, 2013

to April 2, 2014. Images found also showed a subject identifiable as Isabel placing the hidden

cameras in the bathrooms.

This case was investigated by the United States Secret Service Cyber-Crimes Task Force,

the Davenport, Iowa, Police Department and the Adams County, Illinois Conservation Office.

The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of

Venture back Into the Woods as City Circle Acting Company of Coralville presents the Tony Award-winning musical classic by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, April 24-May 3 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.

Follow a baker and his wife as they struggle to meet the demands of a vengeful witch so that they may have their hearts' desire?a child of their own. On their journey in and out of the woods, they meet a woman fleeing a ball, a girl with extraordinary hair, a cow-sick boy, a sweet-loving granddaughter, a couple of princes, and at least one giant.

This show features two equity actors bringing their professional polish to the CCPA Stage.  Kristen Behrendt (DeGrazia) shows her Broadway talents as the delightfully cruel and crafty witch, a role made famous by Bernadette Peters.  Patrick DuLaney presents his professional chops as the Baker, who helps connect each of these hilarious and heartbreaking fairy tales together into a story even the Grimm Brothers never imagined.

"I remember listening to the cassette tape of the original cast in 1987 before ever seeing the show on stage.  I imagined what the show would look like--how the stories would be told in the theater.  I'm thrilled to be able to work with this all-star cast to bring this vision finally to life," says director Chris Okiishi. "Even though these are Fairy Tale characters and the stories are firmly based in the Brothers Grimm, I think our audiences will relate in a very real way to the characters' triumphs and struggles.  And who hasn't wondered what happens after 'Happily Ever After'?"

Tickets are $12-$27 and can be purchased online at http://www.coralvillearts.org/ or by calling 319.248.9370 or in person at the CCPA box office at 1301 5th Street and at the Coralville Recreation Center at 1506 8th Street. Into the Woods is sponsored by University of Iowa Community Credit Union.

TIPTON, Iowa–The Hardacre Film Festival is taking a year off.

The staff behind Iowa's longest-running film festival announced today their decision to delay the next festival until 2016 so the group can help with fundraising to save the festival's namesake, the historic Hardacre Theater in downtown Tipton.

The nonprofit Hardacre Theater Preservation Association (HTPA) purchased the theater in February 2014 and has been raising money to renovate, restore and reopen the theater ever since. The group recently announced that the renovation will cost approximately $3.8 million.

Some Hardacre Film Festival staffers also volunteer with the HTPA and decided to focus this year on helping the group save the theater.

"It was a really tough decision because the festival has been going strong annually since 1996, and we want to keep that going. But we also really want the next festival to be held in the renovated Hardacre Theater," said Will Valet, festival director and HTPA vice president. "The film festival staffers are going to put their energy this summer into saving the theater."

The Hardacre Film Festival shows recent short and feature-length independent films from around the world. The 2014 festival was held in the Tipton High School auditorium as volunteers spent last summer gutting the Hardacre Theater. The festival typically is held the first full weekend of August, although last year's festival was a one-day event to accommodate the high school venue.

The Hardacre Theater Preservation Association is planning a series of summer fundraisers while applying for grants and seeking private donors to help reopen the theater. The Hardacre Theater will celebrate its 100th anniversary in April 2016.

"The Hardacre Film Festival has built a loyal audience over the last 17 festival events, and we can't thank them enough for their enthusiastic support," Valet said. "The festival will return, without a doubt. We just need to make saving the Hardacre a top priority this year."

The festival staff urge moviegoers to check out the many Iowa film festivals still to come in 2015, including:

  • Interrobang Film Festival, Des Moines, June 26-28

  • Snake Alley Festival of Flim, Burlington, Aug. 6-8

  • Landlocked Film Festival, Iowa City, Aug. 14-16

  • Iowa Independent Film Festival, Mason City, Oct. 23-25

  • Wild Rose Independent Film Festival, Des Moines, November
