The Old Creamery Theatre To Hold Benefit on April 11 A Shaken Not Stirred Affair

The Old Creamery Theatre will hold a benefit, A Shaken Not Stirred Affair, on April 11, 2015 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center in Cedar Rapids. Enjoy refreshments, hors d'oeuvres, sneak peeks of 2015 shows, and a silent auction!

A Shaken Not Stirred Affair will also serve as the culmination of the Old Creamery's silent auction, featuring items from the Amana Country Club, Zin's, Cedar Ridge Winery, Siegel's Jewelry, Disney World, and so much more!

Timber Lake Playhouse Hosts Teen Auditions for HAIRSPRAY

MOUNT CARROLL, IL -- Timber Lake Playhouse, the professional summer theatre in Mount Carroll, will hold open auditions for teenagers and young adults who look like high school students for ensemble roles in their summer production of Hairspray. The company is seeking to cast up to ten strong dancers who can sing. African Americans are strongly encouraged to audition.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, February 14th at the West Carroll Middle School in Mount Carroll, located at 633 South East Street. Performers should arrive at 10:30 a.m. to sign in. The audition will begin with a dance call at 10:45 a.m. Based on the dance call, people may be asked to stay and sing. All auditions will end by 2:00 p.m.

Anyone attending should bring proper footwear, a current photo, and sheet music for a song in the style of the musical. An accompanist will be provided. Singing to a recording is discouraged. Please bring a list of potential rehearsal conflicts, as well.

Rehearsals for the production will begin on May 22nd. Rehearsals are every day through June 3. The production runs June 4th through June 14th. TLP will try to work around class schedules for rehearsals. No performance conflicts are allowed. Visit the website for more information.

Hairspray will be directed by Lili-Anne Brown, artistic director of Bailiwick Chicago and recipient of the 2014 Jeff Award for best direction of a musical for her company's production of Dessa Rose. Choreography will be by Zachary L. Gray, who recently served as associate director/choreographer of Shrek The Musical at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and was a resident performer and choreographer at TLP in 2008.

Winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Hairspray is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire ? to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!

Just two-and-a-half years ago, the QC Theatre Workshop was founded by a small group of passionate artists who believed that the Quad Cities deserves intimate, powerful, and accessible theatre. Thanks to your support, we have been able to make that happen!

Not only have thousands of our community members experienced our productions, but many of you have decided to support our work with generous donations. So far this season, we have raised more than $4,000! For a small company like ours, this is a big step. But there's so much more to do.

The best way to make great theatre is by hiring professional artists. Theatre is a massively time-consuming endeavor, and hiring artists not only allows a company to support local talent, but it provides a higher quality theatrical experience to you, our community.

Beginning with our next production - A Steady Rain - all Workshop actors, staff, and designers will be paid for their time and talents. Initially, these stipends will be very small, as we simply do not have the financial ability to pay artists what they're worth...yet! But this is an important step, and as we grow our financial resources - with your help - we will increase these stipends and continue to secure the brightest talents in the Quad Cities.

Joseph Oliger participates in regional theatre festival in Augustana College production

ROCK ISLAND, IL (01/19/2015)(readMedia)-- Augustana College's production of A Green River, written by Aaron Randolph III and directed by Augustana alumnus Phil McKinley, was invited to perform at this year's Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Region III Festival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 8. With the talents of Joseph Oliger of Davenport and over 20 other participants, the cast delivered a stunning performance to 1,100 audience members.

Founded in 1860, Augustana College is a selective four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences. The college is recognized for the innovative program Augie Choice, which provides each student up to $2,000 to pursue a high-impact learning experience such as study abroad, an internship or research with a professor. Current students and alumni include 155 Academic All-Americans, a Nobel laureate, 13 college presidents and other distinguished leaders. The college enrolls 2,500 students and is located along one of the world's most important waterways, the Mississippi River, in a community that reflects the diversity of the United States.

MetroLINK Earns Sustainability Leadership Award

The annual presentation of Rock Island's Advanced Technology and Sustainability Consortium (ATSC) Mark W. Schwiebert Sustainability Leadership Award will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 6:45pm during a meeting of the Rock Island City Council.

The 2014 award recipient is MetroLINK (Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District).  This multi-county public transit system serves the communities of Carbon Cliff, Colona, East Moline, Hampton, Milan, Moline, Rock Island and Silvis, IL.

Although the opening of the Operations and Maintenance Center is the most recent addition to MetroLINK's operations, this award is not based solely on that construction. This award took into consideration their entire range of operations. MetroLINK was selected for the following reasons:

Operations and Maintenance Center:

  • The facility incorporates elements such as:

o   A rooftop with a system with 1,344 Photovoltaic Solar Panels to provide electricity needs

o   A 32 panel solar thermal hot water system to heat water used for vehicle washing

o   Water use reduction through bus wash recycling

o   Heat recovery systems

o   Use of bio swales and native grasses to control storm water runoff

o   Radiant in-floor heating system in maintenance area

o    An indoor CNG and Diesel refueling station

District Station:

·         Metro's District Station replaces an outdated (1978), on-street transfer location and offers a number of passenger amenities including real time next bus information
  • The Station incorporates a number of sustainable elements, including a photovoltaic roof, occupancy-controlled lighting and the re-use of rooftop water runoff for the Station's water feature.

General Operations:

  • MetroLINK has been a leader in environmentally friendly policies for over a decade, committing to green technologies through the use of Compressed Natural Gas vehicles and bio diesel fuel, utilizing innovative energy sources in capital infrastructure pieces, and promoting the environmental benefits of using transit to potential riders.
  • Since 2002, MetroLINK has acquired forty two (42) CNG-powered buses, accounting for nearly 75% of its fixed-route fleet.

Headquartered in Moline, MetroLINK provides transportation services throughout the Quad City Area to over 3.2 million riders a year.  MetroLINK strives to drive economic development, transportation infrastructure and livable communities throughout the area.

The ATSC was created in 2006 by former Mayor Mark Schwiebert to work with technology oriented businesses located in Rock Island. The ATSC was developed to:

  • Provide networking opportunities for businesses that are developing or are significant

users of technology.

  • Determine how the City can better support businesses that are technology oriented or

have an interest in sustainability concepts, processes, or products.

  • Explore technology based enterprise to increase Rock Island's visibility and brand the

City as being a tech friendly community.

Members of ATSC established the Mark W. Schwiebert Sustainability Leadership Award in April 2009.  This award was created to honor former Mayor Schwiebert for his 20 years of service to Rock Island and for his work in the area of sustainable initiatives. This special award is given annually to a business, organization, or individual demonstrating outstanding leadership in the area of green or sustainable initiatives.

Shravya Reddy Pothula Receives Honors at Baylor University

WACO, Texas (Jan. 15, 2015) - More than 3, 200 Baylor University students were named to the Dean's Academic Honor Roll for the 2014 fall semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.  A private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, Baylor is classified as a research university with "high research activity" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. This blends with Baylor's international reputation for educational excellence built upon the faculty's commitment to teaching, scholarship and interdisciplinary research to produce outstanding graduates.

Shravya Reddy Pothula of Rock Island and enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences has made the honor list.

The Spy Who Killed Me, The Old Creamery's Comic Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Opens February 13 at the Cedar Rapids Clarion!

The Spy Who Killed Me, opens February 13 and runs through March 28 at the Cedar Rapids Clarion Hotel and Convention Center. Opening night is Friday, February 13. Shows are on Saturdays, February 14, 21, and 28, and March 7, 14, 21, and 28. Seating starts at 6 p.m.; show at 6:30 p.m. New this year? two matinees on March 21 and March 28 with seating starting at noon and the show time at 12:30 p.m.

When secret agent Jacob Seal gets an urgent call from his Agency, this comic murder mystery is off to a running start!  When faced with a lethal henchman, double agents, and a chicken pluckers' convention, will Seal be able to find Dr. Doom and stop his evil plan before it's too late?  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to join us for hilarious antics and great food, while you help us catch a criminal master mind. The Spy Who Killed Me is written by James Daab.

QC THEATRE WORKSHOP ANNOUNCES TRIBES AUDITIONS AND SPRING PLAYS

Davenport's QC Theatre Workshop will host auditions for its summer production, Nina Raine's family drama Tribes, on Saturday, February 21 at 5:00pm, with performances scheduled for June 12 - 28. Directed by Augustana College theatre instructor Jennifer Popple, Tribes features roles for three women and three men, ages early 20s through early 60s, with two of the roles requiring some performance of sign language.

The recipient of the 2012 Drama Desk Award for Best Play, Tribes tells the story of a young deaf man born into a hearing family, whose parents - wanting to protect him from feeling like an outcast - prevent him from learning sign language. However, when he meets a young woman who is losing her hearing and is already fluent in sign, deeper questions about family, community, beliefs, traditions, and communication are raised in this smart and moving new work that the Chicago Tribune called "uncommonly fine play," and the New Yorker magazine deemed "extraordinary."

Raine's unique drama employs both speech and sign language - with the latter being interpreted for hearing audiences via projected super-titles - and two of Tribes' cast members will be asked to perform sign language in their roles. But while prior familiarity with sign language will be beneficial, it is not required, as rehearsals will be set aside for the actors to focus exclusively on sign.

Female actors are sought for the roles of Beth (50s/60s), Ruth (20s), and Sylvia (20s), and male actors for the roles of Christopher (50s/60s), Daniel (20s), and Billy (20s). Those auditioning will be asked to perform a memorized dramatic monologue of two minutes or fewer and be prepared to read from the script. Rehearsals will begin in early May, with opening night scheduled for Friday, June 12.

Prior to Tribes, the QC Theatre Workshop will present its two spring productions. The first production of 2015 is author Keith Huff's Broadway smash A Steady Rain. Running March 13 - 28, and described by the Chicago Tribune as "a gritty, rich, thick, poetic, and entirely gripping noir" this tale of two Chicago cops and a horrific shooting reunites the team who initiated the Workshop's 2012 debut production of RED: director Tyson Danner and co-stars Mike Schulz and Thomas Alan Taylor. In May, the Workshop with partner with Dress for Success Quad Cities to present a benefit production of Nora and Delia Ephron's Love, Loss and What I Wore May 15 - 17.

WHAT:

Audition by appointment. Appointment may be made beginning January 12, 2015 by calling The Old Creamery business office at (319) 622-6034. Actors should prepare two short contrasting monologues (max. 1 minute each). At least one monologue should be a comic piece (preferably contemporary). In addition to the short monologues, singers should prepare 16 to 32 bars of one (or two

contrasting) song(s) sung a cappella or with recorded accompaniment. (A CD player will be available - no accompanist will be provided but there will be access to a piano). Please bring a current headshot and resume.

Seeking Equity and non-Equity adult performers of various ages (College age and up) to fill paid positions in The Old Creamery's 2014 Main Stage, Studio, and Old Creamery Theatre for Young Audiences seasons.

A limited number of performance internships are available.

Internships typically involve onstage and backstage work on our Theatre for Young Audiences productions and/or Camp Creamery theatre workshops. Internships may or may not include performance opportunities providing EMC weeks.

Membership and applicable weeks in Equity's EMC program are available for regular Main Stage productions only.

(EMC is not available for Old Creamery Theatre for Young Audiences productions or Studio Stage productions).

One technical internship is also available for a candidate with carpentry and/or  lighting and sound experience.

Internships can begin as early as March, but typically have summer or fall start dates and most require fall availability. All internships include housing plus a $225 per week living stipend. Intern duties involve all aspects of theatre and may include but are not limited to:

performing, costuming, set work, assistant stage management, house management, props, lighting, sound, promotions, assistant teaching, box office, and concessions assignments.
