“Beetlejuice" at the Adler Theatre -- April 28 through 30.

Tuesday, April 28, through Thursday, April 30

Adler Theatre, 136 East Third Street, Davenport IA

A Broadway hit praised by Variety for its "off-the-wall humor, endless visuals and aural delights, [and] tuneful music and wicked lyrics," the stage-musical version of Beetlejuice enjoys an April 28 through 30 run at Davenport's Adler Theatre, this ticklish adaptation of the Oscar-winning Tim Burton smash also hailed by Entertainment Weekly as "a feast for the eyes and the soul."

Boasting music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and a book by Anthony King and Scott Brown, Beetlejuice was nominated for eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and finds "the ghost with the most" taking the stage in a hilarious and haunting live production. As fans of Tim Burton's 1988 cult classic will remember, Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager still grappling with the loss of her mother when she moves into a new home – one that just so happens to be haunted. Enter Beetlejuice, a mischievous and wildly unpredictable demon with a taste for the supernatural. When Lydia calls on him to scare away the living, she quickly learns that dealing with the undead can be a real nightmare. Full of electrifying music, larger-than-life characters, and spooky-fun surprises, this stage spectacle is a ghoulishly good time, its Broadway rendition inspiring the Washington Post to rave that "on a measurement scale of energy-output-per-minute, high-octane Beetlejuice would now be the safest ticket in town."

An Australian talent who's also a playwright, musician, and performer, composer and lyricist Eddie Perfect was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Original Score for Beetlejuice. His works for the stage include Shane Warne the Musical (Token Events), for which he won a Helpmann, a Green Room, and Victorian Premier’s Literary Award; Vivid White and The Beast (Melbourne Theatre Company); Strictly Ballroom (Global Creatures); Songs from the Middle (with the Brodsky Quartet); and King Kong on Broadway (Global Creatures).

Meanwhile, Beetlejuice book writers Scott Brown and Anthony King have been creating together since high school. Decades later, their two-man musical comedy Gutenberg! The Musical! scored Drama Desk, Lortel, and Outer Critics Circle nominations, as well as a 2024 Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Musical. Brown also writes for TV (HBO’s Sharp Objects, Hulu’s Castle Rock, WGN’s Manhattan), received the George Jean Nathan Award for his theatre criticism at New York, and spent many happy years at Entertainment Weekly. King is an Emmy-nominated writer, producer, and performer who, like Brown, received a Tony nomination for his work on Beetlejuice. Other credits include Apple TV+'s The Afterparty, HBO's Silicon Valley, Comedy Central's Broad City, Netflix's Dead to Me, HBO Max's Search Party, and Hulu's Woke. Additionally, King spent many years as the artistic director of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City.

Beetlejuice enjoys a three-night run in the Broadway at the Adler series from April 28 through 30, with performances starting at 7:30 p.m. each night and admission starting at $48. For tickets, call (800)745-3000 and visit DavenportLive.com/the-adler-theatre.
