“Beetlejuice Jr." at the Timber Lake Playhouse -- June 26 through 29.
Thursday, June 26, through Sunday, June 29
Timber Lake Playhouse, 8215 Black Oak Road, Mt. Carroll IL
A one-act version of the Broadway-musical hit praised by Variety for its "off-the-wall humor, endless visuals and aural delights, [and] tuneful music and wicked lyrics," Beetlejuice Jr. enjoys a June 26 through 29 run at Mt. Carroll's Timber Lake Playhouse, this adaptation of the Oscar-winning Tim Burton smash boasting a gifted cast of young talents and all the favorite characters audiences have loved for a generation-plus.
Boasting music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and a book by Anthony King and Scott Brown, with its original version nominated for eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Beetlejuice Jr. finds "the ghost with the most" taking the stage in a hilarious and haunting production based on the 1988 cult classic. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager still grappling with the loss of her mother when she moves into a new home—one that just so happens to be haunted. Enter Beetlejuice, a mischievous and wildly unpredictable demon with a taste for the supernatural. When Lydia calls on him to scare away the living, she quickly learns that dealing with the undead can be a real nightmare. Full of electrifying music, larger-than-life characters, and spooky-fun surprises, Beetlejuice Jr. is a ghoulishly good time for audiences of all ages.
Serving as director and choreographer of Beetlejuice Jr. is Marquez Stewart, who also performed those duties for this past December's production of Winter Wonderettes, with Jason Barrette acting as music director. And with Leighton Simpson portraying the title character and Lou Kelly as Lydia Deetz, a full two dozen additional area talents complete the Beetlejuice Jr. ensemble: Walker Barnhart; Kenny Chemens; Starlyn Eberman; Grace Eickert; Falon Eickert; Kimberly Fosdick; Scarlett Gendreau; Willow Johnson; Makalah Knutti; Aubrey Kretschmer; Aubrey Laity; Brynn McCammack; Ryker McCombie; Ella Miller; August Morgan; Wilder Mosley; Jennie Promenschenkel; Brooklynn Quick; Jordan Runge Ray; Adalynn Reese; Ryker Robinson; Bohn Sparboe; William Sparboe; and Silvine Von Hamm.
Beetlejuice Jr. runs at the Mt. Carroll Theatre from June 26 through 29, with performances at 11 a.m. on Thursday and Sunday and 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $15, and more information and tickets are available by calling (815)244-2035 and visiting TimberLakePlayhouse.org.
