Sunday, November 20, 7 p.m.
Adler Theatre, 136 East Third Street, Davenport IA
A Tony-nominated delight that the New York Times described as "a high-energy ... hymn to the glories of girlishness,” the theatrical version of a beloved Reese Witherspoon comedy enjoys a November 20 Davenport engagement when the Adler Theatre hosts the national tour of Legally Blonde: The Musical, this hilarious, tune-filled treat sure to demonstrate why Broadway World called the show “a bright testimony to the power of women and importance of self-love.”
Like the movie smash that debuted in 2001, Legally Blonde: The Musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams, and proves that you can be both legally blonde and the smartest person in the room. Things are initially groovy for Elle, but suddenly her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting more “serious” about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her brain and ingenuity to also get admitted to Harvard. School begins with endless struggles, but with the help of her new friends, Elle quickly realizes her potential and her strengths as she sets out to change the narrative. A contemporary, topical story that touches on many current hot-button issues while thrilling audiences with memorable songs and explosive dances, Legally Blonde: The Musical warms the heart by proving that self-discovery never goes out of style
A Broadway hit that ran for more than a year between 2007 and 2008, the show received seven Tony Award nominations and 10 Drama Desk Award nominations, and after Legally Blonde: The Musical's West End production opened in 2010 at the Savoy Theatre, the production was nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards and won three, including the trophy for Best New Musical. Theatre critics, meanwhile, have been effusive in their praise, with the Chicago Reader praising the work for its “tongue-in-cheek choreography and playfully smart lyrics,” and the U.K.'s The Independent deeming the show "ridiculously enjoyable from start to finish."
The director Legally Blonde: The Musical's current national tour, Jeffrey B. Moss' credits include newly imagined renditions of such classic musicals as Golden Boy, Rags, The Spitfire Grill, and Brigadoon, and to date, he has staged more than 35 national and international tours of instantly recognizable titles, including: Guys & Dolls, Hello Dolly!, Man of La Mancha, The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Music Man, West Side Story, 42nd Street, Mame, Damn Yankees, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Legally Blonde: The Musical makes its Davenport tour stop on November 20, admission to the 7 p.m. performance is $43-83, and tickets are available by calling (800)745-3000 and visiting AdlerTheatre.com.
