“Legally Blonde: The Musical Jr." at the Timber Lake Playhouse -- June 24 through 27.

Wednesday, June 24, through Saturday, June 27

Timber Lake Playhouse, 8215 Black Oak Road, Mt. Carroll IL

The one-act version of a Tony-nominated delight the New York Times described as "a high-energy ... hymn to the glories of girlishness,” the theatrical version of a beloved Reese Witherspoon comedy enjoys a June 24 through 27 run with the Timber Lake Playhouse's Legally Blonde: The Musical Jr., a hilarious, tune-filled treat sure to demonstrate why Broadway World called the original show “a bright testimony to the power of women and importance of self-love.”

Like the movie smash that debuted in 2001, Legally Blonde: The Musical Jr. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams, and proves that you can be both legally blonde and the smartest person in the room. Things are initially groovy for Elle, but suddenly her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting more “serious” about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her brain and ingenuity to also get admitted to Harvard. School begins with endless struggles, but with the help of her new friends, Elle quickly realizes her potential and her strengths as she sets out to change the narrative. A contemporary, topical story that touches on many current hot-button issues while thrilling audiences with memorable songs and explosive dances, Legally Blonde: The Musical Jr. warms the heart by proving that self-discovery never goes out of style

A Broadway hit that ran for more than a year between 2007 and 2008, the original show received seven Tony Award nominations and 10 Drama Desk Award nominations, and after Legally Blonde: The Musical's West End production opened in 2010 at the Savoy Theatre, the production was nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards and won three, including the trophy for Best New Musical. Theatre critics, meanwhile, have been effusive in their praise, with the Chicago Reader praising the work for its “tongue-in-cheek choreography and playfully smart lyrics,” and the U.K.'s The Independent deeming the musical "ridiculously enjoyable from start to finish."

Legally Blonde: The Musical Jr. will be staged in Mt. Carroll from June 24 through 27, with performances Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday at 2 p.m. Admission is $19, and more information and tickets are available by calling (815)244-2035 and visiting TimberLakePlayhouse.org.
