Lauded by the Los Angeles Times as “fresh, funny, and simply terrific” and by the Boston Globe as “a rollicking girls' night out,” the song-filled stage sequel Menopause the Musical 2: Cruising Through “The Change” brings its tour to the University of Dubuque's Heritage Center on May 12, the Las Vegas Review Journal adding that “dollar for dollar … it's the best show in town!”
Five years after its heroines' chance encounter in a department store, Menopause The Musical 2: Cruising Through "The Change" reunites audiences with the original's beloved ladies for more high jinks, this time on the high seas. The stage sequel is a hilarious and heartfelt look at the joys of menopause and friendship - plus hot flashes, mood swings, and memory lapses. Ladies of all ages (and gentlemen, too) are invited on a trip of self-discovery, backed by a new soundtrack of toe-tapping parodied hits from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. For the comedy's four showstopping ladies, menopause was not the end, but rather the beginning of a beautiful friendship in which love conquers all, and friendships never fail.
The original Menopause musical follows four mature women shopping for lingerie at a Bloomingdale's sale, with lyrics parodying popular music from the baby boomer era to reflect symptoms of the menopause. Following the success of an Off-Broadway production, which ran for more than 1,500 performances until 2006, the show was produced across the United States touring to the present day including in Las Vegas, where it has been running since 2006 as the longest running scripted musical in Las Vegas history. Menopause has spawned productions worldwide, and internationally, the musical has been performed in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, United Kingdom, Slovenia, South Africa and South Korea.
Menopause the Musical 2: Cruising Through “The Change” will be staged in the John & Alice Butler Hall of the University of Dubuque's Heritage Center, admission to the 7:30 p.m. performance on May 12 is $54-64, and more information and tickets are available by calling (563)585-7469 and visiting Dbq.edu/heritagecenter.
