Clinton Area Showboat Theatre, 311 Riverview Drive, Clinton IA
Lauded by Broadway World as "a truly fantastic, feel-good show that will you have jumping for joy in your seat," the Tony-winning smash Million Dollar Quartet opens the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre's 2024 summer season of popular jukebox musicals, treating audiences to the iconic hits and personalities of legends Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley.
On December 4, 1956, Cash, Lewis, Perkins, and Presley all found themselves at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, and proceeded to record a legendary jam album. Million Dollar Quartet subsequently brings that legendary December night to life with an irresistible tale of broken promises, secrets, betrayal, and celebrations that is both poignant and funny. Audiences are invited to relive the era with this smash-hit sensation that features an incredible score of rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, R&B and country hits performed live onstage. The jukebox musical's showcased hit songs include “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “Walk the Line,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more, culminating in performances of nearly two dozen tunes that are among the most beloved in American music history.
The Broadway production of Million Dollar Quartet premiered at the Nederlander Theatre on April 11, 2010,with a cast featuring Eddie Clendening as Elvis Presley, Lance Guest as Johnny Cash, Levi Kreis as Jerry Lee Lewis, Robert Britton Lyons as Carl Perkins, and Hunter Foster as Sun Records' Sam Phillips. The Broadway cast also included Elizabeth Stanley as Dyanne, who, in the show, accompanies Elvis Presley to the Sun Records studio and sings "Fever" and "I Hear You Knocking" in addition to providing back-up vocals. Million Dollar Quartet was nominated for three 2010 Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Levi Kreis, the latter of whom won for his portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis. In 2010, the show's original cast recording was also released, and the musical finally closed on Broadway in June of 2011 after having played 489 performances and 34 previews.
