“Mrs. Doubtfire" at the Adler Theatre -- December 17.

Wednesday, December 17, 7:30 p.m.

Adler Theatre, 136 East Third Street, Davenport IA

Inspired by the Oscar-winning Robin Williams smash and hailed by the Hollywood Reporter as “a feel-good, family-friendly comedy that delivers,” the musical version of Mrs. Doubtfire brings its national tour to Davenport's Adler Theatre on December 17, its beloved faux Scottish nanny stealing laughs and hearts in a production the Chicago Tribune called “the lovable, big-hearted musical comedy we need right now.”

As in the 1993 screen farce that won a Best Makeup & Hairstyling Academy Award for making star Robin Williams utterly unrecognizable, the stage rendition of Mrs. Doubtfire finds struggling, out-of-work actor Daniel Hillard willing to do anything – anything – for his kids. After losing custody in a messy divorce, he creates the kindly alter ego of Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a desperate attempt to stay in their lives. Yet as his new character takes on a life of its own, Mrs. Doubtfire teaches Daniel more than he bargained for about how to be a father. A hilarious and heartfelt story about holding onto your loved ones against all odds, Mrs. Doubtfire's Broadway run earned a Best Actor in a Musical Tony nomination for its star Rob McClure, and also scored six Outer Critics Circle Award nominations, including for Outstanding New Broadway Musical, Outstanding Book of a Musical (for Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell), and Outstanding New Score (Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick).

Another Outer Critics nod went to Mrs. Doubtfire's legendary director Jerry Zaks, who, from his eight nominations to date, won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play and Drama Desk Award for directing The House of Blue Leaves (1986), Lend Me a Tenor (1989), and Six Degrees of Separation (1991) as well as the Tony for Best Direction of a Musical and Drama Desk Award for 1992's revival of Guys & Dolls. For the touring production, Danielle Hillard/Euphegenia Doubtfire is portrayed by Craig Allen Smith in his National Tour debut, his previous roles including Nathan Detroit in Guys & Dolls, Gary in Noises Off!, Jerry in The Full Monty, and Rooster Hannigan in Annie. Also making her National Tour debut with Mrs. Doubtfire is Melissa Campbell as Daniel's ex-wife Miranda, the performer's stage credits including the roles of Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Julie Jordan in Carousel, and Betty Haynes in Irving Berlin's White Christmas.

Mrs. Doubtfire brings its National Tour to Davenport on December 17, admission to the 7:30 p.m. performance starts at $48, and more information and tickets are available by calling (800)745-3000 and visiting DavenportLive.com/the-adler-theatre.
